Weekly hours vary depending on demand.
Location :
Long Beach, CA. Training sessions are conducted outdoors or at clients' homes.
Qualifications:
Experience :
Hands-on experience working with and handling dogs. Proficiency in safely managing dogs and maintaining them below their emotional threshold. Knowledge of canine body-language.
Training Philosophy :
Adherence to LIMA principles (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive). Knowledge of canine behavior and force-free training methods. Understanding of behavioral learning theory.
Interpersonal Skills :
Ability to treat humans and dogs with respect, honesty, and mindfulness. Willingness to learn. Attention to detail.
Requirements & Skills:
Legal & Administrative :
Authorization to work in the United States. Signed employment agreement, non-compete, and non-disclosure agreements. Pass a criminal background check.
Professional Expectations :
Punctuality and professionalism, including appropriate attire (long pants and closed-toe, comfortable shoes). Reliable transportation to work sites.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift up to 45 pounds. Physically capable of working with energetic puppies and dogs of varying sizes. Ability to walk with a pack of dogs for at least two hours.
Technology Skills :
Proficient in using smartphones for texting, photography, video recording, and social media posting (e.g., Instagram, Facebook). Competent in managing calendars, appointments, and work schedules.
Safety Guidelines:
Ensure a safe environment for all dogs in your care. Never leave dogs unattended. Use sound judgment when interacting with dogs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Training & Client Support Shadow certified trainers to observe and assist with client training plans. Follow up on client communications as directed by lead trainers. Update client notes and progress records under supervision. Program Assistance Help implement school training programs by supporting student sessions. Assist with setup, breakdown, and maintenance of training equipment. Conduct inventory checks for equipment, sanitation supplies, and vehicle prep. Dog Handling & Skill Development Properly fit collars, leashes, and gear on dogs. Practice on-leash walking, socialization, and basic handling with trainer oversight. Support basic training during sessions to build your skills. Content & Logistics Support Capture photos and videos of sessions for documentation and social media. Transport dogs to/from sessions if needed (personal vehicle may be required). Manage group flow during classes, including safety checks and basic client guidance. This position is ideal for an experienced dog handler passionate about learning force-free training methods and committed to building positive relationships with both dogs and their families.
