Independent Contractor Position Overview HaloK9 Behavior and Boarding is seeking a dependable, physically fit, and attentive Evening Kennel Attendant to provide high-quality care for boarding dogs, shelter dogs, and dogs with varying temperaments and behavioral needs. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working around dogs of all sizes and energy levels and can complete assigned responsibilities independently, safely, and consistently. Responsibilities

  • Feed, water, monitor, and care for boarding and shelter dogs.
  • Clean and sanitize kennels, runs, yards, common areas, and equipment.
  • Safely handle and move dogs of various sizes, breeds, energy levels, and temperaments.
  • Follow individualized care instructions, feeding schedules, medication protocols, and behavior-management guidelines.
  • Provide appropriate exercise, enrichment, potty breaks, and supervised interaction as directed.
  • Observe dogs for changes in behavior, appetite, energy, stool, physical condition, or signs of illness or injury.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly facility throughout the shift.
  • Secure kennels, gates, doors, and the property at the end of the evening.
  • Communicate important updates, concerns, incidents, and completed tasks to management.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and instructions, including protocols for dogs with behavioral challenges.
  • Perform other kennel-related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements
  • Previous experience handling dogs in a kennel, boarding, shelter, veterinary, daycare, training, or similar environment preferred.
  • Must be physically fit and able to safely handle large, strong, and active dogs.
  • Comfortable working with dogs that may be fearful, reactive, anxious, excitable, or challenging to manage.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, lift, carry, clean, and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing approximately 40 pounds, or as reasonably required.
  • Dependable, punctual, observant, and safety-minded.
  • Able to work independently and follow written and verbal instructions without direct supervision.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions as duties may include outdoor work.
  • Must be comfortable working around cleaning products, dog hair, noise, odors, and bodily waste.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to consistently report for scheduled shifts.
  • Must be willing to complete any required orientation or training before beginning independent work.

Independent Contractor Expectations This role is structured as an independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and business-related obligations, as applicable. Work will be performed according to HaloK9 Behavior and Boarding's safety, animal-care, and facility procedures. Contractor status and responsibilities will be governed by a written agreement and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
