Saw/Cut LeadJ ob Summary The Saw/Cut Lead is responsible for leading the Saw/Cut team and ensuring steel and other materials are accurately cut, prepared, and delivered to the appropriate production areas according to drawings, work orders, production schedules, and quality standards. This position provides hands-on leadership on the manufacturing floor while promoting safety, productivity, quality, and teamwork. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and coordinate daily activities of the Saw/Cut department. Review work orders, drawings, cut lists, and production schedules to determine required materials and cutting specifications. Operate and oversee the safe operation of saws, cutting equipment, measuring tools, and related machinery. Ensure steel and other materials are properly identified, measured, positioned, and cut to required dimensions. Verify material type, size, quantity, and cut accuracy before releasing materials to the next stage of production. Set up and adjust saws and cutting equipment as needed to maintain production and quality requirements. Train, coach, and provide direction to Saw/Cut employees. Monitor employee performance, work quality, productivity, and adherence to company procedures. Plan and prioritize work to meet production schedules and deadlines. Coordinate with welding, fabrication, material handling, and other departments to ensure materials are available when needed. Identify and communicate material shortages, equipment problems, production delays, or quality issues to supervision. Perform routine inspections and assist with basic maintenance of saws and cutting equipment. Maintain accurate material counts and minimize scrap and material waste. Ensure the work area is clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards. Enforce proper use of PPE and compliance with company safety policies and procedures. Promote a positive, productive, and safety-focused work environment. Assist with troubleshooting production issues and recommend improvements to processes and workflow. Perform hands-on production work when needed to support department goals. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Leadership Responsibilities Provide clear direction and expectations to department employees. Lead by example in safety, attendance, work ethic, quality, and productivity. Assist management with employee training and development. Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and material utilization. Address routine production and personnel issues and escalate concerns when appropriate. Qualifications Previous experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing, saw operation, or a related industrial environment. Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred. Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, cut lists, measurements, and work instructions. Strong knowledge of measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, calipers, or similar equipment. Ability to safely operate industrial saws and cutting equipment. Strong understanding of workplace safety and PPE requirements. Good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize multiple jobs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential. Ability to work effectively with employees from different skill levels and experience backgrounds. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work around large steel components. Ability to work safely around overhead lifting equipment, forklifts, industrial machinery, noise, dust, and other manufacturing hazards. Ability to wear required PPE throughout the work shift. Safety & Quality Safety and quality are critical responsibilities of the Saw/Cut Lead. The Lead is expected to ensure employees follow company safety procedures, operate equipment properly, use required PPE, maintain accurate cuts, and produce material that meets established specifications and production requirements.
