Job Description

Buyer - Remount Medix Specialty Vehicles | Elkhart, IN The story of Medix began in January 2001 in Elkhart, Indiana. What started as a response to the need for more cost-effective ambulance manufacturing has evolved into a commitment to delivering the performance, safety, and value first responders deserve. As part of the JB Poindexter & Co. family of companies, Medix continues to grow and invest in our people, processes, and operations. We are seeking a Buyer to support our Remount operation in Elkhart, Indiana. This role will work closely with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure the materials and components needed to support production are available when and where they are needed. Position Summary The Buyer is responsible for purchasing materials, components, and supplies necessary to support the day-to-day needs of the Remount operation. This position manages purchase orders, works directly with suppliers, monitors material availability, and partners with Operations to identify and resolve potential shortages or delivery concerns. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and able to balance daily priorities while maintaining strong supplier and internal relationships. Responsibilities
  • Purchase materials, components, and supplies required to support production and operational needs.
  • Create, issue, and maintain purchase orders and ensure accuracy of pricing, quantities, and delivery dates.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively follow up with suppliers regarding delivery status, shortages, and past-due materials.
  • Partner closely with Operations to understand production priorities and changing material requirements.
  • Identify potential material shortages and communicate risks before they impact production.
  • Work with suppliers and internal partners to resolve quality, delivery, pricing, or invoice discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information within company systems.
  • Support inventory management and help identify opportunities to improve material availability and reduce excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers.
  • Assist with sourcing and evaluating suppliers as business needs change.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within Supply Chain and the Remount operation.
  • Perform other purchasing and supply chain responsibilities as needed to support the business. Qualifications
  • Previous purchasing, buying, supply chain, or material planning experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with suppliers, Operations, and other internal partners.
  • Comfortable identifying problems, asking questions, and escalating material risks when necessary.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP or purchasing systems preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.
