Job Description

Fashion Buyer Help us build Salem's new favorite modern resale store. Uptown Cheapskate is a fast-growing national resale brand where customers buy and sell like-new and gently used fashion from brands like Lululemon, Free People, Alo, Vuori, Zara, Nike, and designer labels. Buying is one of the most important roles in our store, and it is not for everyone. Buyers decide what to accept, what to pass on, what to offer, and how to price everything from everyday staples to high-end luxury. Our training and software helps, but knowledge, common sense, and judgment drive every decision. Great Buyers understand brands and trends, work quickly and accurately, and communicate confidently with sellers. Everyone in our Fashion Buyer track completes Presorter training, learning how to evaluate items based on brand, style, condition, season, demand, and inventory needs. Whether your knowledge comes from professional experience or years of buying, selling, collecting, and following fashion, we care most about what you know and how you think. What You'll Do Welcome sellers, check in items, and explain our process Presort items based on brand, style, condition, season, and demand Decide what should move forward based on inventory needs As you progress, select and price inventory using technology and judgment Present fair offers while protecting customer value and store profitability Support customers, merchandising, and other store needs What We're Looking For Strong knowledge of fashion brands, trends, resale value, and what will sell Confidence pricing everything from everyday items to luxury goods The ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy Friendly, clear, and respectful communication Reliability, openness to coaching, and strong availability Relevant experience is helpful, but demonstrated knowledge matters most Pay, Perks, and Growth Certified Buyers at $17 per hour; Presorter training typically starts at $16 per hour Higher starting rates and raises based on experience, demonstrated ability, and added responsibility Opportunities to advance into Senior Buyer, Lead Buyer, and Intake Buy Lead roles Bonus opportunities 25% employee discount on eligible purchases Hands-on training in brands, pricing, inventory, and resale Advancement is based on demonstrated readiness, not a predetermined amount of time. Excellent Buyers can move into higher-paying Senior Buyer, Lead Buyer, and Intake Buy Lead roles. These positions may coach other Buyers, set inventory priorities, audit purchasing and pricing decisions, and analyze margins, sell-through, and other performance metrics. Training begins soon. We plan to start buying from customers in late September, with our Grand Opening planned for November. If you know fashion, trust your judgment, and want to become an excellent Buyer, hit "Apply."
