Job Description
Our client, a manufacturing company located in Bay Shore, NY is looking for a Senior Buyer to join their team. What you will do in this role: Develop and execute procurement strategies for raw materials, including proteins, flours, oils, and other high-value ingredients. Source, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts, pricing, terms, and supply commitments across two manufacturing locations. Maintain forward-looking purchasing plans aligned with production forecasts, lead times, commodity markets, and contract cycles. Monitor commodity markets and market intelligence to drive purchasing decisions, mitigate supply risk, and identify cost savings and total cost improvements. Partner with R&D on SKU rationalization, ingredient consolidation, product launches, and formulation changes. Manage inventory across manufacturing sites and 3PLs, including safety stock, lot traceability, FIFO, aging inventory, cycle counts, and reconciliations. Lead month-end procurement activities, including PO accruals, receipt reconciliation, vendor statements, spend reporting, and forecast-to-actual analysis. Build strong supplier and logistics partnerships while driving cost savings, freight/landed-cost optimization, service levels, supply continuity, and procurement KPIs. What you will bring to the role: 10+ years of experience in ingredient purchasing, commodity procurement, or sourcing within food manufacturing or CPG. Strong category expertise in proteins, flours, oils, and commodity-based ingredients. Proven success with supplier negotiations, contract management, and commodity price exposure. Experience with ERP systems for purchasing, inventory, and financial reconciliation; Aptean is a plus. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis, and modeling. Experience with month-end close, PO reconciliation, cost variance reporting, and multi-site procurement/inventory management; import, landed cost, and tariff knowledge preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently. Fully onsite in Bay Shore, NY, Monday-Friday, with approximately 10% travel; food safety/supplier qualification knowledge (SQF, BRC, or equivalent) preferred.
