Job Description

Position:
Lead Buyer Reports to:
Operations Manager Job Purpose:
The Lead Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials and components required to support manufacturing operations. This position works closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure the timely availability of technically specified materials while maintaining competitive costs, quality standards, and reliable supplier performance. The ideal candidate has strong purchasing and negotiation skills. The ability to understand technical specifications and engineering documentation is a must.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Purchase materials and components in accordance with company requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop qualified suppliers capable of meeting technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Request and analyze supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and issue purchase orders.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including cost, quality, lead time, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality to resolve technical, material, or supplier-related issues.
  • Coordinate with Production to ensure materials are available when required to meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Maintain accurate purchase orders, supplier records, pricing information, lead times, and other purchasing data within the ERP system.
  • Identify opportunities through supplier negotiations, alternative sourcing, and standardization.
  • Expedite critical or delayed orders and communicate changes in delivery schedules to affected departments.
  • Support new product introductions and engineering changes by sourcing new components, materials, and suppliers.
  • Coordinate with engineering on alternate materials, components, and suppliers while ensuring compliance with applicable specifications and quality requirements.
  • Assist with supplier audits, qualification activities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete materials.
  • Stay current with market conditions, material availability, pricing trends, and emerging supplier capabilities.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, quality requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Job Requirements:
Education and Training
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of purchasing, procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience purchasing machined components, fabricated parts, electrical components, and mechanical assemblies preferred.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with ERP purchasing systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
