Job Description

Overview The Purchasing Agent is responsible for managing procurement activities, including purchasing raw materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and services. This position works with suppliers to negotiate pricing and secure favorable terms for pricing, delivery schedules, and quality specifications that align with QES budget goals, company objectives, and overall strategy. The Purchasing Agent will build strong supplier relationships, support Project Management and Engineering, maintain accurate purchasing and inventory information, and participate in cross-functional initiatives designed to improve efficiency, profitability, quality, and customer service. _____________________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Qualify new suppliers, negotiate pricing, and develop supplier contracts while building strong supplier relationships. Analyze market trends, pricing, and product quality to ensure the best value for the organization. Prepare purchase orders, confirm orders, and expedite orders accurately and efficiently. Support Project Management and Engineering by preparing price estimates. Participate in cross-functional projects focused on improving efficiency, profitability, quality, and customer service. Ensure purchasing administration procedures are followed and executed professionally and accurately. Support and guide Project Managers, Engineering, and other administrative personnel regarding purchasing procedures. Work with Accounting and suppliers to research and resolve purchasing and invoice discrepancies. Maintain appropriate inventory levels and update item parameters to ensure system accuracy. Assist senior members of the Purchasing department in analyzing potential problems that could impact the company. Review drawings as needed to support purchasing activities and material requirements. _____________________________________________________ Knowledge and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of experience in purchasing or a related procurement field. Experience reviewing engineering or manufacturing drawings. Experience using MRP systems. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Experience analyzing data and using information to support purchasing decisions. Strong mathematical aptitude and ability to apply basic mathematical concepts. Ability to problem solve, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. Strong communication and public relations skills. Experience with supplier sourcing and contract negotiation preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with Purchasing, Accounting, Project Management, Engineering, and other QES departments. Ability to understand and interpret drawings as they relate to purchasing requirements. Strong understanding of mathematics and its application to purchasing and pricing. Ability to identify potential problems and proactively support solutions. Professional judgment and commitment to following established purchasing procedures accurately and consistently. Customer-service mindset with a focus on supporting internal departments and achieving company objectives.
