Job Description

Job Title:
Buyer Planner Position Summary The Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing procurement and production planning activities to ensure the timely availability of materials and efficient manufacturing operations. This role requires strong experience in steel purchasing and the ability to read and interpret blueprints to support accurate material planning and supplier communication. Key Responsibilities Plan and execute purchasing of raw materials, with a focus on steel (sheet, plate, bar, or tubing as applicable) Analyze production schedules, inventory levels, and forecasts to determine material requirements Review and interpret engineering blueprints and specifications to ensure correct material selection and ordering Coordinate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to support project requirements Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delivery, or pricing Maintain optimal inventory levels to balance cost efficiency and production needs Generate and manage purchase orders, track shipments, and ensure on-time delivery Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements within the supply chain Maintain accurate data in ERP/MRP systems and provide reporting on inventory, purchasing, and planning metrics Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in purchasing, planning, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment Direct experience purchasing steel materials (required) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and material specifications (required) Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Strong negotiation and supplier management experience Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard business tools Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of New Berlin, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $60000.00/yr.

Vacation:
2 weeks of vacation per year (pro-rated for the first year depending on start date). 5-12 years of service, 3 weeks. 13+ years of service, 4 weeks.
