Gather Church

Kids Director

Job Description

Help create the kind of kids ministry that kids can't wait to come back to and parents feel great about. We're looking for a Kids Director who loves Jesus, builds incredible teams, and knows how to make Sundays fun, welcoming, and safe. If you're excited to develop leaders, serve families, and build Gather Kids from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you. To apply, email your resume and a brief introduction to info@gatherbham.com.
WHO YOU ARE
(Character and leadership values) Fully surrendered to Jesus Christ, with visible evidence of an active, growing relationship with him and increasing Christlikeness. An adult leader first; someone whose primary calling is to recruit, encourage, equip, and multiply adults who lead kids. Meticulous with details and passionate about clear, well-designed systems. A servant with a heart for the kid who is not present and the adult who does not know where to turn for help. Committed to replacing themselves by developing leaders, delegating meaningful authority, and preparing others to lead.
WHAT YOU DO
(Position summary) The Kids Director builds and leads the adult team responsible for Gather Kids. This leader creates fun, compelling, Jesus-centered, and safe environments where kids can know and follow Jesus, want to return, and are cared for. The Kids Director also builds trust with parents and caregivers by ensuring that every environment is prepared, secure, welcoming, and led with excellence. The Kids Director is or becomes a member of Gather Church and demonstrates alignment with the mission, vision, doctrine, and values of Gather Church and the Global Methodist Church.
HOW YOU DO IT
(Primary responsibilities) 1. Build and multiply the adult leadership team Recruit, screen, onboard, train, schedule, encourage, coach, and care for adult and student leaders. Create a leadership pipeline that identifies emerging leaders, provides practical training and feedback, and entrusts them with increasing responsibility. Build a culture in which leaders arrive prepared, serve with joy, encourage one another, and understand how their role advances the mission. 2. Create excellent weekly environments Oversee curriculum, lesson preparation, worship, activities, supplies, room setup, kids team assignments, and check-in. Ensure every environment is fully staffed, prepared, clean, organized, age-appropriate, and continually improving through observation and feedback. Handle challenges with calm, care, and sound judgment. 3. Own safety, security, and care Develop and consistently enforce Ministry Safe policies, classroom ratios, check-in procedures, background checks, safety training, incident response, and emergency protocols. Respond appropriately to allergies, medical needs, behavioral concerns, incidents, and parent questions, maintaining confidentiality and escalating concerns when needed. Partner with the Senior Pastor when a kid or family needs care beyond the scope of Gather Kids. 4. Build systems that scale Build documented, scalable systems, maintain accurate check-in and team records, and anticipate future needs in leaders, rooms, resources, and ministry capacity. Oversee nursery and future Gather Kids staff, ensuring clear expectations, healthy communication, and alignment. Demonstrate proficiency with PCO and Google Workspace. 5. Partner with families and reach those not yet present Build trust with parents and caregivers through warm, clear, timely, and proactive communication. Welcome first-time families, provide clear next steps, and follow up with kids and families who are new, absent, disconnected, or navigating a difficult season. Help families practice discipleship at home and create clear pathways to resources, encouragement, prayer, or additional support. Partner with church leadership to serve families in the surrounding community.
WHEN YOU DO IT
(Typical weekly and Sunday rhythms) Prepare curriculum, supplies, schedules, and team communication during the week. Recruit and follow up with prospective leaders; coach and encourage current leaders. Arrive before each service for setup and a team huddle. Remain present and accessible during ministry programming to support leaders, families, and needs as they arise. Review attendance, incidents, first-time families, and follow-up needs after each service. Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, leader training, and scheduled church events.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Adult leaders are recruited, trained, encouraged, retained, and developed into greater responsibility. Every Gather Kids environment is fully prepared, fun, compelling, and safe. Parents and caregivers experience clear communication and growing trust in the ministry. Systems are documented, consistently followed, and able to support growth. New and absent families receive thoughtful follow-up. The Kids Director is continually transferring knowledge and authority so the ministry does not depend on one person.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHORITY
The Kids Director is accountable to the Senior Pastor for personal character, ministry alignment, team development, safety, stewardship, and the overall health of Gather Kids. Within approved policies and budget, the Kids Director may organize teams, implement curriculum, establish procedures, and manage resources; matters involving employment, significant unbudgeted expenses, mandatory reporting, legal or safety risk, or major ministry changes must be escalated to the Senior Pastor.
