WHAT YOU DO

(Position summary) The Worship Director builds and leads the teams responsible for the music and production elements of Gather Church services. This leader plans worship in partnership with the Senior Pastor, develops musicians and vocalists, and ensures that sound, lighting, video, presentation, staging, and related systems support excellent, authentic, and distraction-free worship. The Worship Director is or becomes a member of Gather Church and demonstrates alignment with the mission, vision, doctrine, and values of Gather Church and the Global Methodist Church.

HOW YOU DO IT

(Primary responsibilities) 1. Build and multiply the worship and production teams Recruit, screen, onboard, train, schedule, encourage, coach, and care for musicians, vocalists, and production leaders. Create a leadership pipeline that identifies emerging worship and production leaders, provides practical training and feedback, and entrusts them with increasing responsibility. Build a team culture marked by spiritual preparation, musical excellence, humility, encouragement, reliability, and shared ownership. 2. Plan worship services with the Senior Pastor Plan songs, worship elements, service flow, and transitions with the Senior Pastor in alignment with Scripture, sermon direction, the church calendar, and Gather's vision. Maintain an accessible song library and communicate accurate service plans with enough lead time for excellent preparation. Demonstrate proficiency with PCO, ProPresenter, Ableton, and Google Workspace. 3. Lead rehearsals and weekly service execution Lead rehearsals, soundchecks, run-throughs, and team huddles, setting clear expectations and coaching team members toward spiritual and technical preparation. Lead worship regularly while developing others who can lead without the Worship Director present. Handle last-minute changes and challenges with calm, sound judgment, and clear communication. 4. Oversee production quality Provide leadership and quality control for audio, lighting, presentation, video, livestream, staging, and related systems. Establish standards, checklists, training, and troubleshooting procedures that create consistent services without preventable distractions. 5. Steward equipment, systems, team, and resources Maintain an organized inventory and plan proactively for equipment care, repair, replacement, and future upgrades. Manage the approved worship and production budget wisely, aligning purchases with ministry priorities. Build documented, scalable systems for scheduling, planning, communication, setup, teardown, and team development. Oversee future worship and production staff, ensuring clear expectations, healthy collaboration, and alignment.

WHEN YOU DO IT

(Typical weekly and Sunday rhythms) Meet or communicate with the Senior Pastor and staff early enough to plan songs, service flow, and production needs. Prepare charts, tracks, lyrics, service plans, schedules, and team communication during the week. Recruit and follow up with prospective leaders; coach and encourage current worship and production leaders. Lead a weekly rehearsal and any necessary production preparation or programming. Arrive well before each service for setup, soundcheck, run-through, and a team huddle. Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, team development gatherings, and church events as scheduled.

Worship and production leaders are recruited, equipped, encouraged, retained, and developed. Services are thoughtfully planned, prepared, and aligned with Gather's vision and values. People can participate without avoidable musical or technical distractions. Equipment, documented systems, and shared leadership support continued growth without dependence on one person.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHORITY

The Worship Director is accountable to the Senior Pastor for personal character, ministry alignment, team development, stewardship, and the spiritual, musical, and technical health of the ministry. Within approved policies and budget, the Worship Director may organize teams, schedule leaders, collaborate in song selection, establish procedures, and manage resources; matters involving employment, significant unbudgeted expenses, legal or safety risk, or major ministry changes must be escalated to the Senior Pastor.
