is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Transport & Towing Dispatcher for our growing commercial transportation and recovery operation in San Diego. This is not a warehouse, parcel, general freight, or supply-chain dispatch position. We are specifically looking for someone with experience in towing, heavy equipment transportation, equipment rental transportation, heavy haul, construction transportation, or a closely related operation. The dispatcher will serve as a central point of communication between customers, drivers, and company operations. You will receive transportation and towing requests, gather the information needed to properly evaluate each job, coordinate the appropriate driver and equipment, provide customers with accurate updates, and keep jobs organized from the initial call through completion. The right person must be highly organized, confident on the phone, personable, calm under pressure, and genuinely good with people. Customers should feel that when they call SOCAL CO., someone knowledgeable has taken ownership of their problem and will make sure it gets handled. Responsibilities Answer incoming calls and transportation/towing requests professionally and promptly. Gather complete job information including pickup and delivery locations, vehicle or equipment type, weight, dimensions, condition, accessibility, customer requirements, and requested timing. Dispatch and coordinate drivers, tow trucks, commercial trucks, and equipment trailers. Determine the appropriate truck, trailer, or recovery equipment for routine assignments based on company procedures and equipment capabilities. Recognize when a job requires additional review because of weight, dimensions, recovery complexity, permitting, routing, equipment limitations, or unusual site conditions. Schedule heavy equipment moves, commercial vehicle transportation, towing, and recovery assignments. Coordinate transportation of excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, forklifts, construction machinery, commercial trucks, trailers, and other equipment. Monitor driver locations, availability, job status, ETAs, and schedule changes. Maintain consistent communication with drivers throughout assignments. Provide customers with professional updates regarding scheduling, ETAs, delays, and job completion. Communicate with contractors, equipment rental companies, dealerships, repair facilities, trucking companies, commercial fleets, and other customers. Coordinate job-site access, loading/unloading requirements, contact information, purchase orders, and other job-specific requirements. Create and maintain accurate dispatch records, job tickets, customer information, driver assignments, and job documentation. Ensure completed job information and supporting documentation are organized for billing. Assist with basic transportation quotes using established company pricing and procedures. Escalate complicated pricing, heavy recovery, oversize/overweight, or unusual transportation requests to management when necessary. Respond quickly and professionally when schedules change, equipment breaks down, customers have concerns, or unexpected problems occur. Help maximize driver and equipment utilization while minimizing unnecessary downtime and deadhead. Maintain a professional, organized dispatch environment. Qualifications Previous professional dispatch experience . Strongly preferred experience in towing, heavy equipment transportation, equipment rental transportation, trucking, heavy haul, construction transportation, or a closely related field. Strong understanding of dispatching drivers and coordinating pickups and deliveries. Excellent telephone communication and customer-service skills. Ability to gather accurate information and ask the right questions before dispatching a job. Strong organizational and multitasking ability. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable communicating with commercial drivers, customers, vendors, and management. Basic understanding of commercial trucks and trailers. Comfortable using computers, email, GPS/mapping systems, spreadsheets, and dispatch software. Accurate data entry and documentation skills. Reliable attendance and ability to work independently. $24.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
