Job Description

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Park Specialist is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and appearance of parks, trails, and outdoor recreation spaces. This position supports routine landscaping, facility upkeep, inspections, and special event setup to ensure parks are clean, safe, and enjoyable for the community. The Park Specialist may also assist with outdoor programming and seasonal operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries, concerns, and feedback from participants and families. Provides responsive and timely feedback on the status and program of work activities, department and city goals to staff and the Program Manager. Ensure that employees are abiding by established guidelines, policies, and procedures. Follows all established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures and conducts oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Assess potential safety hazards at sites, reports damaged or unsafe equipment, and takes risk factors. Documents and reports on safety and facility issues and areas of concern to the Parks and Facilities Superintendent and submit work order request. Perform routine maintenance such as litter pickup, restroom cleaning, and emptying trash cans. Assist with landscaping tasks including mowing, weeding, mulching, and watering plants. Inspect park amenities (benches, playgrounds, signage, etc.) for safety and report issues. Assist with coordination, setup, staffing, and breakdown of community events and departmental special events. Serve as on-site support during events to ensure safety and a positive participant experience. Support seasonal projects such as tree planting, field prep, or trail maintenance. Operate small equipment and tool safely (e.g., leaf blower, push mower, weed trimmer). Open, close, and monitor facility use during rentals; address renter needs and enforce guidelines. Perform light janitorial duties and monitor facility cleanliness and safety. Assist with clerical and administrative tasks, including using RecDesk for registrations and payments. Maintain accurate records and assist with inventory management. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

From $18.55 per hour
