Position Title:
Land and Facilities Associate Position Location:
Renton, WA The Land and Facilities Associate supports SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve's restoration, stewardship, monitoring, volunteer engagement, and public education efforts. Reporting to the Board President and working closely with the Land and Facilities Manager, this position assists with habitat restoration projects, ecological monitoring, volunteer coordination, facilities support, and science communication. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, enjoys working outdoors, and possesses excellent communication skills with the ability to translate scientific information into engaging content for volunteers, visitors, donors, and the broader community. This is an onsite, part-time position requiring regular work at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve.

Part-time, 20 hours per week; Wednesday, Friday and Saturday availability required. This role will work two Saturdays per month; specific dates to be scheduled in advance.

Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Worker Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Land Stewardship and Restoration:
Support SHADOW's land management, habitat restoration, and ecological stewardship activities. Prepares, maintains, and cleans restoration and monitoring equipment, ensuring its readiness for programming (identifies equipment that needs repairs or replacement). Supports the Land and Facilities Manager with volunteer recruitment. Supports the Land and Facilities Manager with coordination and facilitation of work parties and public programming. Performs assigned restoration and monitoring activities at the preserve, either independently, with the Land and Facilities Manager, or in a work party setting. Performs assigned restoration work at the preserve either independently, with the Land and Facilities Manager, or alongside volunteers. Conduct ecological and biodiversity monitoring and assist with non-invasive data collection. Prepare, maintain, clean, and organize restoration and monitoring equipment. Identify equipment requiring maintenance or replacement. Maintain organized inventories of tools and restoration supplies. Volunteer & Public Engagement Assist the Land and Facilities Manager with volunteer recruitment and retention efforts. Coordinate and facilitate volunteer work parties as directed by the Land and Facilities Manager. Support SHADOW public educational programs and community events. Help ensure participants have safe, meaningful experiences while engaging in restoration activities. Science Communication Assist in communicating restoration and monitoring outcomes through clear, engaging written content. Contribute to newsletters, website content, social media posts, educational materials, volunteer communications, and reports. Translate ecological and biodiversity monitoring results and restoration activities into accessible language for diverse audiences. Support documentation of restoration successes through GIS mapping, field data collection- digital or written field notes, photography, and written summaries. Data & Administrative Support Collect, organize, and manage restoration and monitoring data as directed. Ensure accurate reporting of volunteer hours and program participation. Support GIS mapping, Survey123 data collection, and database maintenance. Maintain organized records and project documentation. Facilities Support Assist with general facility maintenance. Maintain clean and organized workspaces and visitor facilities. Support other SHADOW staff as needed during programming and special events. Other duties may be assigned.
Other duties may include:
Ensure proper data collection of program participation and volunteer hours for the Administrative and Grant Assistant. Performing ecological and biodiversity monitoring activities at the preserve. Provide general facility support and maintain an organized workspace. Maintain and organize tools and supplies, assisting with the upkeep of inventories. Supporting SHADOW staff in the facilitation of public programs. Minimum Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to write clearly about environmental science, conservation, ecology, or related topics for public audiences. Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with ArcGIS and Survey123. Experience with non-invasive ecological monitoring techniques. Proficiency with data collection and management. Valid Washington State Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or coursework in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Education, Science Communication, or a related field. Experience working with volunteers. Experience conducting habitat restoration. Experience creating educational or outreach materials. Familiarity with native plants and Pacific Northwest ecosystems. Photography or digital media experience is a plus. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to walk or transit across the 130 -acre facility in variable weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to grip, handle tools, type, or feel. To perform work safely, the employee must be able to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while performing restoration or monitoring activities. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds when performing facilities for maintenance or restoration activities. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Hourly:
20 hours/week.
Pay Rate:
$22-24 hour depending on experience.
Benefits:
Part-time employees receive 5 days of sick leave per year.
Schedule:
SHADOW's Office is open Tuesday - Saturday. The schedule for this position is to be onsite on Wednesdays, Fridays, and two Saturdays per month to be scheduled in advance. Some additional weekend and evening hours may be required with ample notice.
