Job Description
Pettengill House seeks an experienced, relationship-driven Director of Development to lead all fundraising, donor engagement, grant development, and philanthropic initiatives that support the agency's mission of providing compassionate social services and food assistance to individuals and families throughout the Greater Newburyport region. The Director of Development serves as a strategic leader responsible for increasing philanthropic revenue through diversified funding streams, cultivating meaningful donor relationships, strengthening community partnerships, and expanding awareness of Pettengill House throughout the communities it serves. This individual works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, staff, volunteers, donors, foundations, and community partners to ensure long-term organizational sustainability. Role is FT, exempt, salaried. Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Development Strategy and Management Strategic Fund Development Including:
developing, implementing, and evaluating the agency's comprehensive annual fundraising plan, establishing measurable fundraising goals and diversifying sources of revenue. Also includes identifying new philanthropic opportunities and emerging funding trends. Individual & Major GiftsIncluding:
building, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors with warmth and respect, via the development of personalized and thoughtful cultivation and stewardship strategies for major donors. Increasing donor retention and lifetime giving, as well as expanding leadership giving opportunities. Planned & Legacy GivingIncluding:
developing and implementing Planned Giving and Legacy Giving Programs, working collaboratively with Finance Committee, legal counsel, and financial advisors to establish planned giving policies and procedures. Also includes educating donors regarding legacy giving opportunities and building a pipeline of future legacy donors.Corporate & Foundation Relations Including:
developing partnerships with businesses, foundations, civic organizations, and community leaders, security sponsorships for agency programs and events, expanding workplace giving opportunities and building long-term corporate engagement strategies. Grant Development- Working collaboratively with the agency's Grant Writing Consultant to strengthen Pettengill House's grant portfolio and secure funding that advances the organization's mission, in collaboration with the Board.
- Includes working with GWC to research, identify, and evaluate grant opportunities that align with the agency's strategic priorities and program needs, collecting organization-wide data and documentation.
- Maintaining grant calendar with GWC to track deadlines, and ensuring timely submission of grant proposal and reporting. Donor Stewardship & Database Management
- Overseeing donor stewardship activities, including timely gift acknowledgements, production of fundraising dashboards and reports, analysis of donor trends and campaign effectiveness and development of donor recognition strategies.
- Leading the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising and stewardship events including signature celebrations, donor appreciation events, community cultivation events and giving campaigns.
- Working with team to develop event budgets, create event sponsorships, procure auction items, coordinate planning committees and manage event volunteers.
- Also includes vendor coordination for event, recognition of donors during event, and holding post-event evaluation debrief and recording lessons learned. Donor Engagement and External Marketing Communications
- Providing strategic oversight of fundraising communications while collaborating with the Marketing & Communications team to ensure consistent organizational branding and messaging throughout all fundraising initiatives.
- Includes providing content for donor newsletters and the Annual report, along with appeal letters and campaign messaging.
- Also includes creating content for: social media fundraising campaigns, website fundraising, email campaigns, press releases related to philanthropy and giving milestones and profiling current donors for donor impact stories. Community Development Work Community Partnerships
Including :
supporting fundraising and awareness initiatives related to agency programs, including Operation Backpack, Summer Snack Drive, holiday programs, food pantry initiatives, Individual and Family Financial Stabilization Assistance Program and community campaigns.- Developing and strengthening collaborative relationships with community organizations, municipalities, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, and civic groups.
- Representing Pettengill House at community meetings, networking events, and public engagements, with or without other Pettengill House staff members.
