The organization works in partnership with community organizations and members to drive change that will have positive impact on the critical needs of the community.
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Grant Writer & Fund Development Coordinator provides grant writing, fund development, and administrative support to the Community Initiatives & Planning Department. Working closely with the Director of Community Initiatives & Planning, this position manages a portfolio of grant opportunities, ensuring timely submission of proposals, compliance reporting, and stewardship activities. The Coordinator collaborates with Finance, Resource Development, and program staff to support implementation of funded initiatives, stewardship efforts, and effective program and data management. The role also supports the development of materials to engage donors, funders, and grantees and, as capacity allows, supports community initiatives, program reporting, and collaborative projects that advance UWBC's Community Impact goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Writing Research funding opportunities from corporate foundations, private and community foundations, and government agencies, and assist with interpreting guidelines and assessing whether grant opportunities fit within the current programs and goals of United Way of Broome County. Lead grant proposal development and submission for renewals and new applications—preparing and organizing materials for proposals and submitting and monitoring grant applications—including drafting proposals/LOIs; grant application narratives; and, in collaboration with the Finance Department, program budgets. Collaborate and finalize proposals with development, program, communications, and finance staff. Manage access and systems for accessing grant portals. Maintain master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence. Maintain a library of grant supporting documents including, but not limited to, resumes; biographies of key staff; IRS forms; and Board/staff listing. Develop structured processes to forecast future grant opportunities and build proposal outlines with internal and external partners to target forecasting grants. Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of community issues, data trends, and relevant national and local research. In collaboration with the Resource Development and Marketing department, ensure acknowledgment of funders/investors via website, e-newsletter, and social media. Fund Development Work with the Resource Development Department to manage funder communications and stewardship materials. Develop and send reports and manage correspondence to funders and other stakeholders. Work with the Finance Department to maintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurements and grant budgets. Communicate upcoming deadlines and reporting requirements for all grants to internal staff. Oversee grant closeout, including compiling final reports and helping ensure that all purchase orders are paid and/or liquidated within 90 days of grant ending period and that all expenditures were received within the grant period. Community Initiatives Represent UWBC at community events, forums, planning meetings, and work groups as assigned by the Director of Community Initiatives. Develop strong collaborative relationships within the community, with a focus on those organizations whose work aligns with UWBC priorities. Identify opportunities for coalition and collaborative initiatives to support UWBC priorities, including funding opportunities, and work towards implementation under the direction of the Director of Community Initiatives and Planning. Review and organize quarterly reporting for UWBC impact programs. Research, analyze, and share quality-of-life data regarding Broome County residents with UWBC leadership. Support the planning and implementation of UWBC's annual Partnering for a Purpose conference, quarterly meetings focused on Healthy Communities, Youth Opportunity, and Financial Security, and other networking and professional development opportunities for community-based organizations. Organizational Needs Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Initiatives to support the effective operation of
UWBC. QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates for the position will possess the following:
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree in English, human development, social work, or a related field. Alternatively, an Associate's Degree and at least five years of experience in the human services field. Experience in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Familiarity with other technology is helpful. Grant writing experience, including a track record of securing new funding opportunities and developing and managing new programs.
