Director of Operations•FAA Part 145 Landing Gear Repair Station Component Overhaul Services, Corp.•Medley, FL 33166 Job type: Full-time, on-site
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, day shift (occasional extended hours to meet customer commitments) About Us Component Overhaul Services (COS) is an FAA Part 145 certificated repair station in Medley, FL, specializing in landing gear overhaul and repair for commercial and regional aircraft. We are a hands-on shop with an experienced team of technicians and inspectors, and our customers are airlines, lessors, and MROs who depend on us to return airworthy gear on time. We are hiring a Director of Operations to run the shop floor day to day and take our workflow, throughput, and on-time delivery to the next level. About the Role The Director of Operations owns everything that happens between a work order being opened and the gear shipping back to the customer. You will run daily production, manage supervisors and leads, and be the person who makes sure every job has a plan, a date, and the parts, tooling, and people it needs to hit that date. This is not a desk job. We are looking for someone who thinks like an industrial engineer and works like a shop manager: someone who will walk the floor, map the process, find the bottleneck, fix it, and then measure whether the fix held. If you have applied lean tools in a job-shop or MRO environment and can show turnaround times you drove down, we want to talk to you. You will report directly to the COO and work closely with the Accountable Manager, Quality/Chief Inspector, Sales, and Purchasing. What You'll Do Run day-to-day operations Direct daily shop production across disassembly, cleaning/NDT, machining and plating coordination, assembly, and final inspection/test Plan and schedule work orders against capacity; set and communicate realistic delivery dates and then hold the shop to them Run daily production meetings and maintain a visible work order status board so everyone knows what ships this week Manage shop supervisors, leads, and technicians•staffing, shift coverage, overtime, training, and performance Coordinate with Purchasing and outside processing vendors (plating, NDT, machining, OEM parts) so material and subcontract work never becomes the reason a job is late Keep customers' turnaround-time (TAT) commitments; escalate early and communicate proactively when a job is at risk Improve workflow and processes (lean / industrial engineering) Value-stream map the overhaul process and eliminate waiting, rework, motion, and excess WIP between stations Apply lean and IE tools•5S, standard work, visual management, kanban for consumables and hardware, SMED-style changeover reduction, time studies, line balancing, root cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone, 8D), and kaizen events Design shop layout, tooling, and work cells to reduce handling and improve flow of large landing gear components Build and track operational
KPIs:
on-time delivery, TAT by product line, WIP aging, labor efficiency, rework/scrap, and cost per job; review them weekly with leadership Standardize routers, work instructions, and time standards so quoting, scheduling, and shop execution use the same numbers Drive continuous improvement projects with clear owners, dates, and measured results Own the customer commitment Be the operational point of contact for customer TAT, expedite, and AOG requests Coordinate with Sales on quotes and capacity so we commit to dates we can hit Support customer and FAA audits from the operations side Compliance and safety Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the Repair Station Manual, Quality Control Manual, and applicable CMMs/OEM data Maintain a safe shop: OSHA compliance, PPE, lifting and handling of heavy components, and chemical/plating safety Partner with Quality to close corrective actions and keep training and calibration current What We're Looking For Required 7+ years of operations leadership in an aviation MRO, aerospace manufacturing, or comparable precision industrial environment, including 3+ years managing supervisors and a shop-floor team Demonstrated lean / continuous-improvement results•you can walk us through a specific process you improved and the before-and-after numbers Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent experience Strong production planning and scheduling skills in a job-shop / high-mix environment Experience with an MRO or ERP system (Quantum Control, Corridor, Pentagon 2000, Ramco, or similar) and strong Excel skills Comfortable on the shop floor, in the plating area, and with heavy components; hands-on leadership style Excellent communication with technicians, customers, and leadership Preferred Landing gear, hydraulics, or component overhaul experience Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 145 repair station operations and
