Job Description

We are seeking a Night Shift Operations Manager to lead overnight dispatch and transportation operations supporting time sensitive over-the-road freight . This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for keeping freight moving, managing the overnight dispatch team, resolving service issues, and making sound operational decisions independently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and manage the overnight dispatch team, including workload, staffing, attendance, performance, and accountability. Coach and train dispatchers, identify skill gaps and productivity waste, and work with management/HR on corrective action or other employee issues when needed. Monitor active freight, schedules, and available capacity; resolve coverage issues and protect customer service before problems escalate. Handle driver call-offs, dispatch call-offs, equipment or route issues, and other overnight operational disruptions. Communicate with drivers, dispatchers, customers, and management as applicable. Ensure dispatch systems and operational emails are actively monitored and addressed. Provide a clear turnover to day-shift management on significant driver, route, staffing, customer, or service issues. Escalate accidents, significant safety events, and credible shutdown risks immediately.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in transportation dispatch, trucking operations, or a logistics role required. Previous supervisory, team lead, or management experience preferred, but not required for a candidate who demonstrates strong leadership ability and potential. Just-in-time freight, manufacturing supply-chain, or other time-sensitive freight experience strongly preferred. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to lead employees, set expectations, address performance issues, and hold others accountable. Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain urgency in a fast-paced environment. Dependable and able to work a full-time overnight schedule, with reasonable after-hours availability for significant issues involving the overnight team.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates well, and is comfortable making decisions. The right candidate does not need to have already held an Operations Manager title, but they must understand transportation or logistics, be willing to lead people, and be capable of taking control of the overnight operation when plans change.
