You review machine status across a busy floor, prioritize work with 3-5 leads, and set the pace for a team of roughly 15-20 machinists. Before lunch, you've partnered with Quality to disposition an inspection finding, synced with CNC Programming and Manufacturing Engineering on an SOP update, and spoken with a tooling vendor about a new insert to improve cycle time. By day's end, you've coached a developing lead, approved staffing plans, and aligned budgets with production targets—while keeping safety, quality, and delivery front and center. What you'll own Lead first-shift machining operations for approximately 15-20 employees, including about 3-5 leads/co-leads. Recruit, train, evaluate, coach, and develop machining talent. Drive safety, quality, productivity, staffing balance, machine utilization, and output. Continuously improve equipment, tooling, process flow, staffing plans, and work methods. Sustain 6S and champion Lean and continuous-improvement initiatives. Expand workforce flexibility through structured cross-training. Prepare labor forecasts, productivity metrics, cost reports, and staffing models. Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to build and maintain SOPs and production procedures. Manage departmental budgets and coordinate shared resources across teams. Support AS9100, safety, environmental, customer-quality, and audit/compliance requirements. Collaboration You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Quality, CNC Programming, Manufacturing Engineering, skilled machinists, and tooling/equipment suppliers to troubleshoot issues, validate processes, and keep production on track. Required experience & skills ~10 years of hands-on CNC machining experience. 5-10 years leading machining teams, overseeing a substantial CNC operation (beyond a small shop). Expert blueprint reading and advanced GD&T comprehension (tolerances, datums, geometric controls, inspection interpretation, and print conformance). Deep knowledge of CNC equipment, tooling, setups, machine capabilities, processes, and troubleshooting. Strong technical problem-solving with cross-functional collaboration. Proven coaching, mentoring, cross-training, and team development skills; experience using progressive discipline when needed. Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and precision instruments; able to train others. Ability to interpret CMM data and make sound production/quality/process decisions. Capability assessments for equipment and processes to ensure parts meet specification. Preferred qualifications Background in aerospace or similarly complex precision machining. Lathe experience, especially on Mazak Integrex or other multi-task platforms. Technical or trade-school education; technical foundation plus business education is a plus. OSHA 10/30 or practical EHS team experience. Strong Microsoft Office skills and fluency with ERP/MRP systems. Leadership style we value Coach, mentor, and develop current and future leaders. Hold people accountable while removing roadblocks and addressing root causes. Stay calm, respectful, and professional in tough conversations. Invest in developing machinists, leads, and co-leads for what's next. Embrace change, growth, Lean, 6S, continuous improvement, and innovation. Thrive in a hands-on, privately held, rapidly growing manufacturing setting. Our machining environment About 65 CNC machines at our St. Peters site and roughly 90 company-wide. Occasional collaboration with another facility on part transfers, capabilities, and processes. Very limited travel. Little to no direct customer interaction. Benefits 96 hours of PTO in the first year, accruing from day one. Nine paid holidays plus a paid anniversary day. Health, dental, and vision insurance. Voluntary life and basic life insurance. AD&D and EAP. Short-term and long-term disability. Parental leave and Teladoc services. 401(k) match: 100% on the first 3% contributed, plus 50% on the next 2%.
