Job Description
Program and Position Overview Nevada County Friday Night Live is part of a statewide Youth Development program operating in 55 counties throughout California. Friday Night Live builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. This program provides participants with a safe environment, opportunities for community engagement, opportunities for leadership and advocacy, opportunities to build caring and meaningful relationships with peers and adults, and opportunities to engage in interesting and relevant skill development opportunities. The Friday Night Live (FNL) Program Coordinator assists in the implementation of Friday Night Live programs in middle and high schools in Western Nevada County, in collaboration with Nevada County Public Health and under Bright Futures for Youth. The FNL Program Coordinator also supports positive youth development and primary prevention in other BFFY programs. This is a part-time (20 hours/week), non-exempt, grant-funded position supervised by the BFFY Associate Director. This is not a "Night Shift" position even though Indeed says it is. Schedule will be varied during regular work hours (M-F, 9:00-5:00). Duties and Responsibilities Program Coordination Coordinate six FNL Chapters at Nevada County schools or community sites, in partnership with schools, school advisors, County and site coordinators Attend weekly FNL chapter meetings Plan meetings and activities in coordination with school advisors and site coordinators Implementing programming consistent with the Friday Night Live Standards of Practice Develop program materials and services to engage students in meaningful opportunities for leadership, advocacy, and skill building Provide ongoing program support of prevention activities Provide content expertise on youth development and primary prevention for alcohol and other drug use, including opioids Administer the FNL Youth Development Survey to all chapters Participate in the Nevada County Youth Services Awards event in the spring Youth Summit Coordination Work with County to organize travel for the FNL Youth Summit, including: Arrange transportation to and from the FNL Youth Summit for all students and BFFY/County staff Drive to and from the FNL Youth Summit Collect and retain copies of permission slips for all students Coordinate other logistics as required by FNL Recruitment and Outreach Work with school advisors at school sites to recruit FNL program participants Provide resource and referral information for chapter sites and BFFY programs to support recruiting and participation in FNL activities Support new chapters developed by BFFY to meet grant deliverables as needed Meetings and Professional Development Attend monthly check-in meetings with County staff to provide updates, ask questions, and coordinate activities Attend FNL Leadership Training Institute Complete BFFY trainings as requested Support for BFFY Programs Attend Friendship Club and NEO Youth Center activities to support youth as needed Attend BFFY meetings and events as requested Attend BFFY and other community outreach events to promote the FNL program as appropriate Share BFFY activities and other program opportunities with FNL participants as appropriate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to form positive relationships with and motivate middle and high school youth Knowledge of youth development principles, harm reduction, and strength-based practices Strong written and verbal communication skills Computer proficiency sufficient to input data and create reports and flyers Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities Flexibility in schedule to accommodate club meetings during school hours and after-school activities QualificationsEducation and Experience Associate or bachelor's degree in health, human services, or a related field preferred; relevant work or volunteer experience will be considered. This is an excellent position for an individual pursuing a degree in youth services, health education, psychology, or a related field. Experience in program delivery of youth services Experience in substance abuse prevention or a related field is desired but not required Special Requirements Valid California Driver's License Reliable transportation and proof of insurance Successful background check Clear TB test
