STEM Director About BGC Metro North's STEM Program:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and self-motivated STEM Specialist to design, implement, and lead engaging STEM programming for middle and high school youth. This role is instrumental in fostering curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Reporting to the STEM Director, the STEM Specialist will develop, deliver, and support innovative STEM programming across multiple Club locations. Responsibilities include leading fee-based enrichment courses where youth explore STEM concepts, apply technical skills through project-based learning, and participate in engaging, real-world experiences. The coordinator will also support curriculum development, staff training, and the implementation of high-quality STEM programming throughout the organization. This position directly advances the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North's mission by creating safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments that inspire confidence, encourage exploration, build technical and life skills, and foster meaningful relationships among youth
Facilitate STEM Programming:
Lead engaging, hands-on STEM sessions that encourage creativity, exploration, critical thinking, and project-based learning. Develop and implement theme-based curriculum for youth of varying ages and abilities while supporting STEM staff in delivering high-quality programming across all Club locations.
Support Youth Development:
Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where youth can explore STEM as a tool for personal growth, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and career exploration. Build positive mentoring relationships and use positive behavior management strategies to foster confidence and success.
Curriculum Development & Program Planning:
Support the planning, development, and implementation of STEM curriculum across all locations. Develop specialty STEM programming during school vacations and summer programs, submit program schedules and supply requests at least one week in advance, and ensure programming aligns with organizational goals and youth interests.
Maintain Equipment and Learning Spaces:
Maintain clean, organized, and tour-ready STEM spaces by ensuring all materials, technology, supplies, and equipment are properly maintained, inventoried, inspected, and prepared for future programming. Ensure the proper storage, handling, and upkeep of all program resources.
Reporting Program Success:
Utilize data tracking tools to monitor program participation, youth engagement, and overall program effectiveness. Collect and report data to measure program outcomes, identify trends, and support long-term member engagement and retention.
Program Adaptation:
Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements based on youth feedback, participation, and emerging STEM trends. Adjust curriculum, activities, and teaching strategies to better meet the interests and developmental needs of participants.
Professional Collaboration & Communication:
Communicate professionally with supervisors, colleagues, families, and community partners. Participate in regular Enrichment team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities while collaborating with staff to strengthen STEM programming across the organization.
Cross-Program Flexibility:
Support K-4 Enrichment, Teen Centers, school vacation programs, summer programming, and other Club initiatives as needed, contributing to a consistent, high-quality experience across all Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North locations. Other Tasks & Projects as
Assigned:
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the success of the STEM Program, Enrichment Department, and the overall mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro North. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children, minimum of 2 years Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. Creativity, initiative, adaptability, and a high degree of self-direction. Ability to work with diverse populations and promote cultural sensitivity. Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification (provided by BGC). Must pass CORI, SORI, and reference checks. Familiarity with Chrome OS, OSX, and Windows computers; comfort with Apple and Android devices. Preferred Coursework or degree in STEM, education, child development, or related field. Passion for STEM and childcare. Desire to learn and share knowledge with others. Skills Energetic, reliable, and passionate about youth development. Ability to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in young learners. Strong program planning and instructional skills. Ability to engage and mentor children through hands-on, inquiry-based STEM activities. Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand or walk for multiple hours daily. Ability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in active, sometimes noisy environments. Work Environment In-person, after-school program based at teen center locations in Stoneham and Wakefield. Primarily weekday shifts with occasional weekends for events or special programs.
