Full Job Description Organization Mission and Program Areas:
Eastside Community Network works to buildcoalitions that promote justice, cultivate communities of care and implement projects that drivesustainable development on Detroit's eastside. We envision Detroit's eastside as a thrivingcommunity that is organized, designed, and defined by residents. ECN carries out this missionthrough the following areas of impact: Family Empowerment, Neighborhood Revitalization,Community Power Building, Environmental Justice, and Holistic Wellness.
Position Description:
We are looking for someone who is passionate about organizing and building the leadership skills of the next generation. The Youth Organizing Manager will lead the youth organizing work at Eastside Community Network. The manager will work with program participants to develop their skills in advocacy, organizing, and leadership development. The candidate will support the Youth Development Team in identifying and maintaining new and existing partnerships along with supporting the development and management of the Eastside Youth Ambassadors Program. This position will also support the Summer Youth Employment program and other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the youth organizing work at Eastside Community Network, including; ○ Oversee programs aimed at educating youth on power building and education reform-related issues, including meeting facilitation. ○ Coordinate opportunities for youth to participate in movement-specific work and direct actions.
  • Represent ECN with external partners in coalitions, community events, and meetings.
  • Effectively communicate program goals, objectives, and outcomes to stakeholders, including funders, community partners, and the organization's leadership team, and maintain progress reports, program evaluations, and other documentation to track the effectiveness of youth programs.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Butterfly Lounge, activities, and associated programs and events.
  • Collaborate with community partners and internal departments to connect youth with additional resources and support services.
  • Participate in grant writing and data collection.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Base Qualifications:
  • 1 - 3 years of experience working with youth ages 14-18 in a program development or direct service capacity.
  • Strong verbal and written communicator, able to interact authentically with different stakeholders, including youth, parents, residents, elected officials, and institutional and corporate partners.
  • Experience and familiarity with youth development, leadership development, and best practices in alignment with MOST Standards.
  • Experience with youth organizing, advocacy, and power-building work.
  • A driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Strong facilitation skills for events and meetings, recruitment tactics, and attraction of youth participants
  • Ability to effectively utilize technology, including (but not limited to) GSuite, Zoom, RingCentral, Facebook Pages, CRM software, etc.
  • Familiarity with the east side of Detroit Preferred Qualifications E xperience and confidence in youth organizing, movement, and power-building work.
  • Experience working with youth in a nonprofit organization or community-based setting.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in community development, education, social work, or other related degree or related work experience.
  • Familiarity with current trends and best practices in youth development programming.
