Job Description

Youth Council & Education Programming Associate The Giving Spirit | Santa Monica, CA (Hybrid/Remote) | Part-Time, $25/hour, 10-12 hrs/week About the Role The Giving Spirit is hiring a Youth Council & Education Programming Associate (YCEPA) to lead our Youth Council 2026-2027 program. In this role, you'll give young people in the Greater Los Angeles area a real platform for civic engagement and community leadership — moderating weekly meetings, guiding outreach events, and helping design an annual signature service project focused on issues like poverty and homelessness. Beyond Youth Council, you'll take on extension work assigned by our CEO and Chief of Staff to grow our educational footprint — connecting with local school staff to support Giving Spirit Service Clubs, presenting to government and business partners, and organizing K-12 educational activities and site visits. This is an ideal role for current or former teachers looking for meaningful part-time work that can run alongside a teaching schedule. What Success Looks Like Strong, consistent Youth Council member participation throughout the year Demonstrated youth leadership development Growing relationships with local K-12 schools Active contribution to improving the Youth Council program year over year What You'll Need Education & Experience (one of the following): High school diploma + 4 years of paid experience, or College degree + 2 years of paid or volunteer experience in Youth/Adult Education, Out-of-School-Time Programming, Youth and Community Development, Youth Sports, or a related field
Preferred:
25 years of age or older
Skills & Experience:
Cultural sensitivity and experience working across diverse youth and adult communities Track record in youth community engagement, community organizing, civic engagement, or leadership development Ability to plan and manage projects and teams, with clear, measurable goals Experience designing, running, and evaluating youth development programs Mentorship skills — you can coach a Youth Council Executive Committee in leadership and communication Comfort holding young people accountable while fostering genuine team ownership Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication, including public speaking to stakeholders Ability to translate complex information for different audiences A collaborative, adaptable, team-first approach Genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion A learner's mindset — ready to grow with the organization and shift focus as needs evolve Flexible schedule for travel as needed (valid driver's insurance required if using a personal vehicle)
Screening Requirements:
This position requires a background check, including fingerprinting and DOJ/FBI criminal history clearance, and is subject to California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). Finalists must disclose certain past workplace misconduct findings or investigations as a condition of employment.
