ADVENTURE AWAITS
Lead Outdoor Adventures That Transform Lives Youth Odyssey is seeking outdoor enthusiasts to join our Summer 2026 team as Youth Program Facilitators in Corpus Christi, Texas. Spend your summer leading rock climbing, kayaking, camping expeditions, and ropes course challenges for youth ages 10-17 discovering their potential through outdoor adventure. What You'll Actually Do Co-lead five week-long overnight adventure camps (June 7-August 14) Facilitate rock climbing, kayaking, ropes course challenges, and camping expeditions Support youth in team-building activities and discovering their strengths through hands-on challenges Help create first-time outdoor experiences for youth who've never camped, climbed, or kayaked before Work alongside experienced full-time facilitators who handle technical certifications and specialized instruction
The Summer Schedule Training Week:
May 29-June 4, 2026 (paid orientation and team preparation)
Five Week-Long Camps:
June 7-August 14 (overnight expeditions, approximately one per week)
Reset Weeks Between Camps:
Lighter-duty program support and prep (same weekly pay) Camp weeks are intensive (50-60 hours with 24-hour youth supervision), reset weeks are much lighter (20-30 hours of planning and logistics). This averages to a sustainable pace across the summer. Compensation $400-$500/week for approximately 11 weeks (May 29-August 14) based on experience Same weekly rate whether it's an intense camp week or lighter reset week All camping, climbing, and paddling gear provided Pro-form discounts on premium outdoor brands Personalized letter of recommendation + 60-second video testimonial for your portfolio What Makes Our Team Different We're a small, experienced crew. Summer facilitators work directly alongside full-time staff who provide daily mentorship and support. You'll have experienced teammates by your side who've been there and can help you navigate any challenge that comes along. You'll have real input into program decisions, daily debriefs to process challenges, and a team that values honest communication about what's working and what's hard. This isn't a corporate camp operation. It's a tight-knit team where everyone knows each other's names and watches each other's backs. Working with Underserved Youth The youth in our programs often come from families facing economic hardship, housing instability, or other challenges. Many are experiencing their first camping trip, first overnight away from home, or first time trying activities like rock climbing. Our experienced staff provide daily support and debriefs; you're never alone in navigating difficult moments. Physical Demands This is an in-person, physically active role. You'll be hiking with day packs (15-20lbs with water, lunches, first aid kits), paddling for several hours, belaying climbers, managing ropes course equipment, and maintaining alertness during overnight supervision. You should be comfortable with rustic camping conditions. The two non-negotiables we've learned through experience: Genuine ability to connect with youth, especially those who may be nervous, or facing challenges Actual tent camping experience. Missing either skill makes for a really difficult summer for everyone.
Ideal candidates have:
Some experience with youth outside your family (coaching, camp counseling, tutoring, mentoring, etc.) Comfort in outdoor settings (camping, hiking, water activities) Physical ability for active work (hiking with gear, paddling, climbing) Team player mindset and flexibility Interest in education, social work, outdoor recreation, kinesiology, or youth development fields Required 18+ years old Pass background check Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification (must have by May 29, 2026) Strong swimming ability (you'll be supervising water activities) What Activities You'll Lead Rock climbing (outdoor and climbing wall), kayaking/canoeing, ropes course facilitation, tent camping, swimming, beach activities, team-building challenges, and outdoor games. Specialized activities like SCUBA, surfing, and archery are led by certified instructors; you'll assist and participate. How to Apply Ready for your most meaningful summer yet?
