Job Title:
Senior Project Manager - Federal ArchitectureJob Description The Senior Project Manager - Federal Architecture leads complex, multidiscipline architectural projects within a federal portfolio, from initial development through close-out. This role combines strategic project leadership, client relationship management, and hands-on coordination of large project teams to deliver high-quality, resilient, and sustainable design solutions. The position focuses on creating impactful spaces such as civic facilities, research environments, and other federal projects that enhance community well-being, while contributing to a collaborative, employee-owned culture. Responsibilities + Direct and coordinate the work of single- and multidiscipline teams throughout the full project lifecycle, from project initiation and development through close-out. + Lead all aspects of large, complex multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with a high degree of technical complexity, overseeing a substantial project staff. + Manage and coordinate multiple projects concurrently, ensuring alignment with scope, quality, schedule, and budget expectations. + Establish, maintain, and strengthen client relationships, actively participating in marketing efforts, contractual discussions, and design and production meetings. + Conduct work sessions with internal staff and external stakeholders to develop project deliverables and advance design solutions. + Plan and coordinate staffing and workload across the entire project lifecycle to ensure timely completion of all deliverables. + Track and manage the financial performance of projects, adjusting team efforts and resources to keep work within agreed budgets and schedules. + Collaborate with accounting, operational, and business leadership during periodic project reviews to report on progress, risks, and opportunities. + Implement and oversee QA/QC procedures to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality of all project documentation and deliverables. + Supervise large project teams, providing direction, feedback, and performance oversight to support successful project delivery. + Mentor and support less-experienced Project Managers, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing within the team. + Champion design excellence with an emphasis on resilience and sustainability, and support the integration of innovative building technologies where appropriate. + Engage in the local and regional market, leveraging knowledge of federal and regional project contexts to inform project strategies and client service. + Perform other related duties as needed to support project success and the broader architecture practice. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Architecture. + Approximately 10 years of related architecture experience. + At least 5 years of project management experience leading architectural projects. + Active registration as a Licensed Architect. + Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams on complex projects. + Experience successfully managing large projects and teams, ideally within a federal project context. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Project. + Knowledge and experience within the local and regional architecture market. + Strong planning skills and the ability to coordinate multiple concurrent projects and deadlines. + Ability to conduct and lead design and production meetings and work sessions with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. + Strong financial management skills, including tracking budgets, monitoring project performance, and adjusting work efforts to meet financial targets. + Commitment to mentoring and supporting less-experienced project managers and team members. + Clear, professional communication skills, both written and verbal, with clients, consultants, and internal teams. + Ability to work within and contribute to an employee-owned, collaborative culture. + Ability to successfully complete a governmental background check, as required for federal work. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience successfully managing large federal architecture projects and multidisciplinary teams. + Experience and/or strong interest in sustainable design and LEED principles. + PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. + Proficiency with Revit for architectural design and documentation. + Experience with AutoCAD for design and production workflows. + Experience with design tools and processes that support high-quality architectural solutions. + Familiarity with innovative building technologies and resilient design strategies. + Local or regional market experience, with an understanding of client expectations and regulatory environments. + A collaborative mindset and a commitment to contributing to an inclusive, employee-owned culture. Work Environment The role operates within a large, national architecture and engineering firm that emphasizes collaboration, inclusion, and employee ownership. You will work closely with architects, planners, designers, and technical experts in a professional office environment, using tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project to manage and deliver complex federal architecture projects. The work involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, participating in design and production meetings, and engaging regularly with clients and stakeholders. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $64.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
