ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our client is a well-established independent energy consulting firm with more than 15 years of experience serving public agencies across California. Acting as a trusted owner's representative, the firm provides objective technical and project management expertise to help public-sector clients plan, design, and deploy on-site energy projects. These include solar, battery storage, EV charging, biogas generation, and in-line hydro, and they reduce grid energy use and operating expenses. The result for clients is energy infrastructure that lowers costs, strengthens resiliency through backup power, and advances sustainability goals. The firm is now rebuilding its internal systems to power its next chapter of growth. Its five-year vision is to become a leaner, more tech-forward, data-driven organization and the go-to energy consultant for public agencies in California.
LOCATION & TRAVEL
Sausalito, CA.
Hybrid schedule:
in office Tuesday through Thursday, remote Monday and Friday. Travel for site walks and on-site client meetings, typically one to two visits per month.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Project Manager will lead the deployment of commercial-scale solar, battery storage, and microgrid projects for public-sector clients throughout California. Serving as the owner's representative, you will guide projects from contract execution through commissioning and keep schedules, budgets, and technical requirements on track. This role is built for a seasoned project leader who operates independently, thrives in complexity, solves problems proactively, and provides steady leadership to contractors, consultants, and public-agency stakeholders. Hands-on experience with the permitting processes and requirements of California electric utilities (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, etc.), the State of California, counties, fire departments, and other AHJs is a must.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead microgrid projects: Manage advanced microgrid projects in California from contract signing through commissioning.
Strengthen critical infrastructure:
Support water and wastewater utilities in deploying resilient energy solutions that provide backup power and reduce electricity costs.
Work with experienced professionals:
Collaborate with a small, highly experienced team with deep expertise in California's energy landscape.
Make a meaningful impact:
Deliver projects that directly support community resilience and long-term sustainability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated project management experience delivering commercial solar and battery storage projects in California. Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience. Strong understanding of California utility rates, tariffs, permitting, and interconnection processes. Proven ability to lead contractors and guide public-agency or institutional clients through complex projects. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Self-motivated, resourceful problem solver focused on communication and results.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Engineer holding a professional credential such as PMP, PE, or an equivalent project management or engineering certification. Background in project development, project management, or project engineering. Track record managing commercial-scale, behind-the-meter solar, battery storage, and/or microgrid projects (infrastructure and facilities) for California public agencies, utilities, municipalities, and special districts. Strong, clear communicator. Customer-centric with a genuine service mentality. Early in each engagement, the role focuses on advising and educating clients so they have the information to make the right decision for their needs. It then shifts to helping them build their projects.
Pay:
$150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
