Job Description

East Washington Borough is seeking a motivated Government/Law Intern for the Spring 2027 semester . This paid internship is a great opportunity for a college student interested in government, law, public administration, political science, or a related field to gain hands-on experience working directly in local government. The intern will assist Borough Administration with a variety of projects involving municipal government, legal research, ordinance codification, records organization, and general administrative operations. This position is designed to provide meaningful, practical experience while allowing the selected intern to contribute to projects that directly benefit the Borough and its residents. Responsibilities The Government/Law Intern may assist with: Gathering information and conducting research at the Washington County Law Library Research related to municipal ordinances, policies, and local government Assisting with the Borough's ordinance codification project Typing, data entry, and organization of documents Document management and file organization Reviewing and organizing historical Borough records Assisting Borough Administration with special projects Other government, administrative, and research tasks as needed What You'll Gain This internship provides an opportunity to develop: Real-world experience in local government operations Exposure to municipal law, ordinances, and public administration Research and professional writing skills Records and document-management experience An understanding of how municipal government functions day to day Professional mentorship and development Experience that can complement studies in law, political science, public administration, government, or related fields Qualifications We are looking for someone who is: Currently enrolled in college or another applicable post-secondary program Interested in government, law, public administration, or public service Organized and detail-oriented Comfortable conducting research and working with documents Able to work independently and follow through on assigned projects Professional and dependable Comfortable using computers and standard office programs Students considering law school or careers in government/public service are especially encouraged to apply. Schedule & Location This is a part-time, paid internship for the Spring 2027 semester . Scheduling can be discussed based on the selected candidate's class schedule and the needs of the Borough.
Pay:
$14.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 per week
