Job Description
Job description Suburban Lawn and Garden started in 1950 by the founder as a neighborhood lawn mowing business. In the seventy years since, Suburban has grown into a multi-faceted retail and wholesale organization dedicated to the principles of growing superior products, providing excellent service and delivering great value to its customers. The assistant byer position is at our corporate office located in South KC. This role requires strong attention to detail as well assisting with product selection, purchasing, and inventory management within the garden category. This role involves supporting the buyer in tasks such as researching market trends, maintaining vendor relationships, managing purchase orders, and tracking inventory levels. The assistant byer reports directly to the Decorative Hardgoods Buyer, and works with the receiving team to ensure product is received and merchandised correctly. This position is integral to the organization's ability to deliver high-quality results while maintaining budgetary and scheduling goals.
Qualifications:
- Years (3-5) of relevant experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill
- Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- An understanding of garden products, trends, and the market.
Job Duties/Requirements:
- Supporting the lead buyer in various tasks, including product selection, vendor negotiations, and purchase order management
- Conducting research to identify new products, understand market trends, and analyze competitor offerings
- Maintaining relationships with existing vendors and potentially identifying and onboarding new vendors
- Tracking inventory levels, identifying potential shortages or overstock situations, and collaborating with the receiving team.
- Identifying and resolving issues related to purchase orders, inventory, or vendor relationships.
- Work diligently to provide accurate terms on PO's for A/P
- Work with the Marketing team at times to conceptualize promotions and provide necessary product information, as well as request any special signage needed for product.
- Work with the Merchandising team, providing them with any special signage or display requests when necessary.
- Work with Tagmaker to ensure proper tags are requested for product.
