Job Description
- Creates and manages work schedule of CNA's and nurses including accommodation vacations/coverage when possible, creating group assignments, assigning additional duties and showers. While maintaining open communication with DSD and DON of any scheduling challenges. Communicating potential outcomes with RNA/nurses or other persons managing call ins after hours when Lead CNA is unavailable.
- Monitor compliance with break and meal periods amongst CNA's.
- Receives direction from Administrator, DON, DSD, Dietary, Activities, and Nursing Staff.
- Strong understanding of the standards of care, and authorized duties of CNA, in the states for which they are licensed.
- Working directly with floor staff between the hours of 1400 and 1700 daily, or more often if needed, unless otherwise directed due to facility needs.
- Reviews clinical skills with CNAs by providing mentoring on essential CNA job duties including; ADL skills, charting, transfers, resident care, hygiene, and scope of practice. Reinforce prior training through observation, modeling and coaching, including ensuring facility policies are honored.
- Partner with other facility leadership to create and implement a plan to support CNAs and provide feedback including CNA Competency Checklists.
- Provides quality nursing care to residents in an environment which promotes resident rights, dignity, freedom of choice and their individuality while providing individualized attention and encouraging residents to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Ensure nursing answers residents call lights promptly and courteously, assisting when needed.
- Ensuring that individualized care plans are followed by providing the charge nurse or other care planning staff with specific information, changes, and observations of the residents needs / preferences.
- Ensure CNA's attend to the individual needs of residents including assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individuals care plan requirements.
- Ensure CNA's provide care that maintains each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears plus other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin.
- Protects the personal belongings of each resident including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, memorabilia, etc. Promptly reports missing items according to established policy.
- Completes inventory of personal items of new admissions, updates the inventory sheet, and labels the clothing/or ensures bag is labeled so laundry services can label personal belongings. Updates Inventory sheets as new personal items come in, ensures staff are understanding of practice to complete when Lead CNA is unavailable.
- Prepares/inspects rooms prior to admissions, including ensuring additional equipment is in place if needed i.e. oxygen concentrator. The room is clean/presentable, equipment is functioning, bed is made, call light functions, bathroom is clean, isolation signage and bins are in place as needed. Assisting nurse with initial assessment including obtaining V/S.
- Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the resident, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Responsible for following universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
- Compliant with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
- Cooperates and works together with all co-workers, planning and completing job duties with minimal supervisory direction, utilizing appropriate judgment.
- The ability to identify and apply yourself where needed most, including assuming a group of residents, assisting with showers, or mealtimes as needed.
- Assist with scheduling/accompanying resident appointments and transportation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
