Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
Coordinate surgery scheduling while performing first-line clinical review of patient medical histories for surgical candidacy in an ambulatory setting.ORGANIZATIONAL DIMENSIONS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Surgery Scheduling- Schedules all procedures performed in the ASC
- Follows scheduling process to obtain all necessary patient demographics, health insurance information from physician's office.
- Schedules appointments and procedures according to physician block times.
- Coordinates schedule with time and equipment availability. Identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed.
- Coordinates efficiently with clinical, administrative, and anesthesia teams to optimize surgical flow and patient safety.
- Follows procedure for notification of changes in schedule ( i.e.: cancellations, rescheduling, notifying patient navigator when a total joint has been posted.)
- For new patients, assigns medical record number and enters all demographic and insurance information into EMR.
- Informs patients of their scheduled arrival times prior to surgery. Pre-Operative Screening
- Assists in reducing surgery cancellations through thorough pre-screening processes.
- Performs initial chart and medical history review.
- Identifies potential concerns for ASC candidacy based on facility and anesthesia patient selection criteria.
- Escalates charts for anesthesia review prior to scheduling.
- Communicates with physician office regarding any additional clearances/preadmission testing requirements.
- Maintains accurate, concise documentation within the physician office and surgery center
EMR. QUALIFICATIONS
- Current LPN License
- Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience preferred
- Experience in surgery scheduling, pre-admission testing, perioperative services, or an ambulatory surgery setting strongly preferred
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
