JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of lead and supervisory responsibilities in the oversight of day-to-day operations of a Nebraska Next Day station.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Station Operations Manager or General Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-- The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 1. Assists Operations Manager in planning and executing daily work assignments for Couriers and Dock Operations. 2. Supervises, trains and reviews work of lower-level staff. 3. Ensures all material is picked up and delivered from/to all area accounts in accordance with DHL guidelines, customer expectations and government regulations. 4. Verifies the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques and compliance with standards; ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures. 5. Utilizes route mapping software to estimate time and resources needed and to ensure efficient delivery plans. 6. Adjusts work plans and schedules according to changes caused by weather, mechanical issues or other unforeseen circumstances. 7. Compiles and maintains a variety of records and logs from daily courier activity. 8. Maintains vehicle maintenance records; coordinates maintenance services. 9. Assists Operations Manager in interviewing and hiring prospective new employees. 10. Arranges coverage of shifts in the event an employee is unable to work shift as scheduled. 11. Performs the duties of Courier or Dock Operations Worker in the absence of regularly scheduled staff or as workload demands; assists on routes and in uniform to ensure service delivery. 12. Communicates and demonstrates compliance with company and client work rules, directives, and procedures to staff. 13. Responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from other staff, DHL representatives and customers; investigate problems and resolve issues in a timely manner. 14. Adheres to all TSA/FAA security and safety policies, procedures and progams. 15. Completes required training modules and attends and participates in training sessions or meetings as required. 16. Follows all safety procedures as instructed. 17. Completes reports of any accidents, property damage or injuries. 18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to: Lead, monitor, train and review staff; independently perform the most difficult daily tasks in area of assignment; keep accurate records; utilize a computer and related software; perform duties in all weather conditions; comply with local traffic laws and speed limits; read maps and/or navigate vehicle to delivery sites; maintain good work habits including reporting to work on time; adhere to standard work and safety procedures; meet strict deadlines; use hand held scanner; communicate clearly and concisely; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; pass a comprehensive background investigation and drug screen and comply with alcohol and drug-free workplace policies; learn and comply with all company work rules.
Knowledge of:
Supervisory and leadership concepts and practices; operations and services of the shipping and delivery business; delivery area, travel routes and traffic patterns; traffic regulations and safe driving techniques; basic vehicle maintenance; time management skills; principles and practices of effective customer service.
Training and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D required. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the express package delivery business; previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
License or Certificate:
The possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain of a valid Driver's license issued by the State where position is located. Clean driving record required. Some assignments require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) .
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to a variety of weather conditions; possible long periods of driving and exposure to traffic, fumes, noise and stressful driving conditions; repetitive work, daily deadlines and occasional overtime; occasional out-of-town travel for training purposes. The work is characterized as Medium to Heavy work. Exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May lift up to 140 pounds with the assistance of other workers. Daily physical activities include walking, carrying and lifting, climbing and descending stairs, reaching overhead, squatting, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching repeatedly. Visual acuity to operate equipment and motor vehicle required.
