Job Title:
Commercial Drywall Carpenter Job Description This role combines hands-on leadership in commercial drywall and metal stud framing with the safe operation of a company box truck. The ideal candidate brings at least 3 years of proven experience in commercial metal stud framing, drywall hanging and finishing, and will oversee day-to-day activities on site while transporting materials, tools, and equipment between jobsites. You will read and interpret commercial blueprints and layout drawings, coordinate work with clients and contractors, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. Responsibilities Lead and supervise commercial drywall and framing activities on job sites, ensuring work is completed on time and in accordance with project specifications. Perform commercial metal stud framing, including layout, measuring, cutting, and installation of metal studs for walls and ceilings. Hang and finish drywall, including taping, mudding, sanding, and preparing surfaces for painting and final finishes. Safely operate and drive a box truck to transport materials, tools, and equipment between jobsites, following all traffic and safety regulations. Load and unload materials and equipment from the box truck, maintaining accurate inventory of tools and supplies. Read and interpret commercial blueprints and layout drawings to plan and execute framing and drywall work. Use tape measures and other hand tools to perform accurate measurements and cuts for framing and drywall installation. Install doors, frames, and related hardware as part of rough carpentry and commercial construction work. Conduct basic inspections of the box truck and equipment before use, reporting maintenance needs or safety concerns. Support accurate tracking of materials and tools, helping manage inventory for current and upcoming projects. Essential Skills At least 3 years of proven experience in commercial metal stud framing, drywall hanging, and drywall finishing. Strong ability to read and interpret commercial blueprints and layout drawings. Demonstrated experience in commercial construction environments. Proficiency in metal stud framing, including layout and installation for commercial projects. Skilled in drywall hanging and finishing, including taping, mudding, and sanding. Ability to safely operate and drive a box truck to transport materials, tools, and equipment between jobsites. Competence using a tape measure and standard construction hand tools for accurate measurements and cuts. Experience with rough carpentry tasks, including installation of doors and related components. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with acoustical ceilings is a strong plus. OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification. Experience with painting and surface preparation in a commercial setting. Ability to manage basic inventory tracking for tools and materials. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a commercial construction environment, working on active jobsites in and around Knoxville. You will spend much of your time on site performing framing, drywall, and rough carpentry tasks, as well as driving a box truck to transport materials, tools, and equipment between locations. Workdays typically follow standard construction hours, with the need to adapt to project schedules and deadlines. The role involves physical activity, including lifting materials, using hand and power tools, and working in a variety of indoor and partially finished spaces. Safety is a top priority, and OSHA guidelines, proper PPE, and company safety procedures are consistently followed. Attire generally consists of practical work clothing suitable for construction sites, including sturdy footwear and any required protective gear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
