Down South Portables is growing, and we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Operations & Fleet Lead who can take ownership of our daily field operations, fleet readiness, routing, and driver team. Our business moves fast. Routes change, customers call, trucks need attention, drivers need direction, and priorities can shift quickly. The right person will be organized, tech-savvy, mechanically knowledgeable, decisive, and comfortable taking ownership without needing constant direction What You'll Own Fleet & Preventative Maintenance Proactively manage preventative maintenance for our service and delivery trucks Maintain service schedules, inspections, repairs, registrations, and fleet records Identify mechanical issues early and coordinate repairs before they impact operations Work with drivers to ensure daily truck inspections and issues are properly reported Coordinate with repair shops, vendors, and parts suppliers Minimize truck downtime and keep equipment field-ready Routing & Daily Operations Build and manage efficient daily service, delivery, and pickup routes Adjust routes quickly when priorities, customer needs, or staffing change Monitor route progress throughout the day and address delays or service issues Use GPS, routing, and operational software to improve efficiency Coordinate equipment, trucks, drivers, and workload to keep operations moving Driver Leadership? Manage drivers' day-to-day performance and expectations Conduct morning check-ins and communicate route priorities Hold drivers accountable for service quality, productivity, safety, and customer expectations Coach employees and address performance issues quickly Help create a culture where people communicate, solve problems, and take pride in their work What We're Looking For Previous operations, fleet, transportation, waste, site services, route service, logistics, construction, or similar field-service management experience Strong understanding of preventative truck maintenance and fleet management Experience managing drivers and route-based operations Comfortable using technology, GPS systems, routing software, mobile apps, spreadsheets, and operational platforms Extremely organized with strong follow-through Able to make decisions quickly without waiting to be told what to do Strong communicator who can lead drivers while still holding people accountable Calm under pressure and able to pivot when the day doesn't go according to plan Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record The Person Who Will Succeed Here You are a self-starter. If you notice a truck is approaching a service interval, you schedule it. If a route isn't working, you fix it. If a driver is falling behind, you find out why.
