Job Description

Job Description An employer in the Houston, TX area is seeking a Capacity Planning Supervisor to lead their ground transportation capacity planning team. On a daily basis, this person will oversee Capacity Planning Specialists responsible for securing qualified carrier coverage, managing dispatch and appointments, and ensuring every assigned shipment is covered ahead of its pickup window. They will monitor the open shipments board, rebalance workloads during volume spikes, provide guidance on difficult-to-cover freight, and make decisions around carrier rates, service requirements, and escalations. This individual will also oversee carrier performance, final cost accuracy, and margin discipline while coaching the team on carrier negotiations, operational execution, and proactive issue resolution. This is a fast-paced, high-volume leadership role that requires strong knowledge of freight brokerage operations, excellent commercial judgment, and the ability to develop a team while maintaining reliable service and carrier capacity. Skills and Requirements 5-7+ years of experience in carrier procurement, carrier sales, truckload brokerage, dispatch, capacity planning, or transportation operations within a 3PL or freight brokerage environment1-3+ years of experience leading, supervising, or directly coaching a team responsible for carrier capacity, brokerage, or transportation operationsStrong experience sourcing carrier capacity, negotiating rates, managing difficult-to-cover freight, and balancing service requirements with buy-rate and margin expectationsWorking knowledge of U.S. domestic ground transportation, including FTL/LTL freight, equipment types, transit times, carrier qualification/compliance, and common accessorial chargesDemonstrated ability to manage a high-volume operation, monitor carrier performance, resolve escalated service or rate issues, and coach team members on performance and operational executionExperience with Descartes Aljex or similar TMS platforms, along with freight visibility and dock scheduling tools such as MacroPoint, Tive, or Open DockAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, and/or experience using Power BI or similar reporting tools We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day.
