Job Overview The Material Handler supports construction operations by receiving, storing, tracking, loading, and delivering materials, tools, and equipment used in utility construction projects. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring material accountability, supporting field crews and subcontractors, and maintaining a safe, organized warehouse and yard environment. The Material Handler also assists with facility and yard maintenance to ensure operational readiness and efficiency. Duties Unload all material delivery trucks upon arrival and verify materials received against Bills of Lading (BOLs), packing slips, and purchase orders. Accurately record, track, and maintain inventory transactions within the appropriate inventory management systems. Receive, inspect, identify, label, and properly store incoming materials, supplies, and equipment. Load company crew vehicles and subcontractor trucks with materials, supplies, tools, and equipment in accordance with job requirements and project specifications. Track materials issued to crews and subcontractors to ensure inventory accuracy and material accountability. Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, organizing, and stocking materials and supplies. Perform routine inventory counts and assist with inventory reconciliation and discrepancy resolution. Deliver materials, tools, equipment, and supplies to construction job sites as needed to support project requirements. Manage and maintain small tools, equipment, and consumable materials utilized by field personnel, including hand tools, power tools, drill chemicals, concrete materials, traffic control devices, and related supplies. Assist in monitoring tool inventories and coordinating repair, replacement, and replenishment activities. Break down returned duct reels and prepare materials for return shipment. Break down and dispose of wood reels, pallets, and other shipping materials in accordance with company procedures. Maintain warehouse, storage, and yard areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition. Perform general yard maintenance activities, including trash removal, weed control, mowing, and upkeep of grounds throughout the year. Assist with snow and ice removal during inclement weather conditions to ensure safe access to facilities and work areas. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Order utility construction materials and supplies as directed. Communicate material needs, shortages, inventory concerns, and delivery schedules with supervisors, project managers, vendors, and field personnel. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and operational requirements. Support warehouse, yard, and operational activities to ensure efficient project execution. Perform other duties as assigned. Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) to two (2) years of experience in warehouse operations, material handling, inventory control, or a related field. One (1) to two (2) years of experience operating forklifts or similar material handling equipment. Basic knowledge of inventory management and material tracking processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word. Valid driver's license and a demonstrated history of safe driving practices. Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of employment preferred. Industry experience in utility construction, telecommunications, or related construction environments preferred. Ability to routinely lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
