SUMMARY OF POSITION
UGM Thrift Stores specialize in reselling, reusing, and recycling slightly used donated clothing and household items for the purpose of raising money and awareness for the Union Gospel Mission. This position will clean, prepare, sort, hang, price, receive donations, process items for merchandising and display as directed by Operation Manager.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Result Area #1: Production Sort the items by quality, gender and season to determine for sale, storage and/or baling. Prepare clothing, linens, and accessories for tagging, pricing and merchandising. Prepare hard goods i.e. books, housewares, shoes, furniture etc., for merchandising. Help unload Estate trucks, and prepare warehouse storage area. Available to work at other UGM store locations when needed. Assist in keeping the warehouse area organized. Price items according to guidelines and meet all expectations and standards. Assist with load outs when needed. Assist with moving furniture to the sell floor when needed. Key Result Area #2: Receiving Assist donors, making immediate assessment of donations and unloading acceptable items. Follow all donation guidelines; graciously turn down unacceptable items. Transfer the Cause while working at the receiving dock. Prepare a receipt for donors and distribute newsletter or other advertisements. Separate donated items into designated categories and move to the designated area for processing. Key Result Area #3: Customer Service Greet every donor cheerfully, tactfully advising them of donations policy and acceptable donations. Greet every customer with a smile and promptly offer help with their needs. Answer phone calls politely and cheerfully and respond to the needs of the caller. Be gracious and courteous to donors and customers, expressing thanks for supporting our ministry. Maintain professional appearance with special attention to good grooming habits.SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to walk and stand for long periods during an 8-hour shift. Prove to be teachable and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once; able to listen and follow instructions. Ability to listen empathically, respond appropriately in emotional situations, and resolve difficult employee and customer related issues in an understanding way with the goal of maintaining relationships. Report to Store Manager for daily assignment. Communicate with Retail and Processing Managers Work alongside staff, ETO's, volunteers and community service workers. Audit sales floor for accurate pricing when assigned by Operation Manager. Audit quality of displays and merchandise. Help Store Manager with floor resets. Pull items from sale floor, for GIK request list. Work in all areas of processing and retail when needed. Assist the Store Manager with training. Run errands for store needs. Unload Estate truck and assisting customers with drive up donations. #UGMUKG REQUIREMENTS
