• Job Title: Environmental Field Technician
• Job Description
• The Environmental Field Technician responds to environmental emergencies, performs technical field and office work, and operates a variety of heavy and mechanical equipment to support spill response, clean-up, and decontamination activities.

This role involves working around hazardous materials, conducting limited chemical tests, maintaining accurate field documentation, and performing physically demanding tasks in a wide range of outdoor and industrial environments.

• Responsibilities
• + Respond to environmental emergencies within a 24-hour period and participate as a spill crew member in clean-up operations.

+ Perform clean-up and decontamination procedures for equipment, tanks, and affected areas following established safety and environmental protocols.

+ Operate mechanical and heavy equipment such as vac trucks, super dusters, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tankers, excavators, skid-steers, bulldozers, forklifts, pallet jacks, lift gates, trucks, trailers, and other equipment as needed.

+ Conduct drum processing and sampling, tank cleaning, and equipment decontamination activities in various industrial and environmental settings.

+ Perform limited chemical tests and work safely around a variety of chemicals, hazardous wastes, and environmental contaminants.

+ Prepare equipment for field work, including inspection, staging, and decontamination, to ensure readiness and safe operation.

+ Maintain accurate field log books, inventory lists, and complete daily reports and other required documentation.

+ Understand and apply spill response terminology, principles, and procedures during field operations.

+ Apply basic knowledge of proper storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials collected during clean-up activities.

+ Use all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, and adhere strictly to safety procedures and protocols.

+ Perform manual labor tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, pushing, pulling, and general construction and general labor duties.

+ Support vehicle and equipment maintenance activities to keep trucks, trailers, and mechanical equipment in safe working condition.

+ Work effectively with the public, clients, and team members, representing the companys ethics and values during field assignments.

+ Field phone calls from supervisors and communicate clearly with field leaders and crew members regarding job status and needs.

+ Follow written and verbal instructions accurately and contribute as a team member on all types of projects.

+ Uphold company ethics and values and perform other duties as necessary to support environmental and industrial projects.

• Essential Skills
• + High school diploma or GED equivalent.

+ Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.

+ Ability to learn, follow, and adhere to proper safety procedures, including the use of all levels of PPE.

+ Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions, including sun, rain, cold, swampy areas, ditches, and dirty environments.

+ Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of bulky equipment on a regular basis.

+ Ability to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for extended periods during field work.

+ Basic understanding of spill response terminology and principles.

+ Basic knowledge of proper storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials collected during clean-up.

+ Capability to perform manual labor tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, pushing, and pulling in demanding conditions.

+ Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors, team members, clients, and the public.

+ Teamwork skills to work productively as part of crews typically consisting of drivers, equipment operators, and technicians.

+ Problem-solving skills to address field challenges and support safe and efficient operations.

+ Ability to maintain accurate field log books, inventory lists, and daily reports.

• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• + Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is highly valued for operating trucks, tankers, and related equipment.

+ One (1) to two (2) years of experience performing labor-intensive work in environmental, construction, contracting, or heavy industrial environments is preferred.

+ Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, skid-steers, bulldozers, forklifts, and other industrial machinery is preferred.

+ Experience with roll-off trucks, dump trucks, tankers, and general construction or general labor work is beneficial.

+ Exposure to hazardous materials handling, hazmat environments, or environmental services work is advantageous.

+ Completion of a 40-hour HAZWOPER or similar hazardous waste operations and emergency response training is beneficial.

+ Ability to perform drum processing, sampling, tank cleaning, and equipment decontamination tasks with attention to safety and detail.

+ Experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, including basic inspection and minor servicing, is a plus.

• Work Environment
• This role is primarily based outdoors and in industrial settings, often in very hot temperatures and varying weather conditions.

Technicians work in confined spaces and around hazardous chemicals, including petroleum tanks and wastewater treatment tanks, and may perform tasks at elevated heights and in noisy environments with heavy industrial equipment. Typical crews consist of 35 people, including a driver, equipment operator, and technicians, fostering a team-focused environment. Technicians average about 55 hours per week, with weekly hours ranging from 40 to 80 depending on project demands, and work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work on Saturdays and Sundays as needed. Appropriate PPE is required and provided for all levels of exposure, and dress typically aligns with industrial and field safety standards suitable for heavy equipment operation and hazardous materials work.

• Pay and Benefits
• The pay range for this position is $23.

00 - $27.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
