Job Description

This Is an Advanced CNC Role — Not a Production Operator Position PM Research is seeking highly skilled CNC Machinists who can independently handle complex CNC setups, programming, troubleshooting, and process development , while also contributing to technical leadership within the machine shop. This role is for experienced machinists who: Fully own advanced setups and machining processes Can create, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs at the machine Are trusted to solve problems others cannot Are willing to help train, coach, and elevate those around them If your experience is limited to running established setups or relying on others for programming and troubleshooting, this is not the right role . What You'll Do CNC Machinists at PM Research are trusted with advanced, non-routine, and high-impact machining work.
Responsibilities include:
Independently setting up and operating CNC lathes, mills, mill-turn (MX), and twin-turret machines Creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs directly at the machine using G-code and M-code Tearing down existing setups and building new setups for production and development work Developing and validating machining processes for new, transitional, or complex manufacturing requirements Troubleshooting advanced machining, tooling, fixturing, and program issues Managing tooling strategies, offsets, inserts, and wear to ensure quality and repeatability Running production parts as required to verify setups, programs, and quality Performing advanced inspection and verification to ensure conformance to engineering requirements Supporting leveling, calibration, and setup of new CNC equipment Maintaining organized tooling, fixtures, documentation, and work areas Following work orders, drawings, setup documentation, and safety requirements Consistently wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) You are expected to own the process, not just the machine . Technical Leadership & Team Impact In addition to advanced machining responsibilities, CNC Machinists at PM Research are expected to contribute to technical leadership within the machine shop.
This includes:
Supporting training and mentoring of CNC Operators Reinforcing setup intent, machining standards, and quality expectations Assisting the Machine Shop Foreman by sharing technical observations and insights Helping stabilize and improve machining processes Contributing input that supports coaching and performance development This is not a supervisory role , but it does require professionalism, communication, and a willingness to help others improve. CNC Machinists lead through technical expertise, example, and collaboration . What Sets This Role Apart This is not a button-pushing or routine production role CNC Technicians are trusted to solve problems, not escalate them Programming and process ownership occur at the machine Quality, repeatability, and process stability matter more than speed This role plays a key part in: Transitional manufacturing development New or revised process implementation Stabilizing production prior to release This position represents one of the highest technical CNC roles at PM Research. Who Succeeds Here This role is a strong fit if you: Can independently set up and run multiple CNC machine platforms Read, write, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs (G-code / M-code) Understand tooling strategy, fixturing, and process development Diagnose machining problems and implement corrective actions Hold tight tolerances consistently and understand why they matter Communicate clearly and work well with others Take pride in craftsmanship, ownership, and problem-solving Are reliable, accountable, and safety-focused Who Will Not Be a Fit This role is not a fit if you: Rely on others for programming or troubleshooting Prefer fixed routines and minimal responsibility Avoid training or helping others improve Prioritize speed over quality and process control Struggle with reliability or accountability We are direct because technical trust is earned here . Requirements Progression from CNC Operator role or equivalent advanced CNC machining experience Demonstrated mastery of CNC setup and operation across multiple machine platforms Demonstrated ability to create, read, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G-code and M-code Advanced proficiency with precision measuring tools Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced problem-solving ability Ability to train, mentor, and communicate effectively with other employees High School Diploma or GED required Technical degree or machining certification preferred (experience may substitute) Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company facilities as needed Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds Reliable attendance is an essential function of the role Compensation, Profit Sharing & Benefits PM Research rewards performance, quality, and long-term contribution.
