Merci's Tailoring is a small business in Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. We are fast-paced, creative and collaborative. We alter both formal attire such as prom dresses, suits, and wedding gowns, and casual everyday clothing.

Job details
- You will be the initial and main touch point with the customers coming into the shop.
You'll perform fittings, manage the desk (appointments, phone calls), coordinate work to be done with the seamstresses, and prep pieces as needed (removing zippers, opening seams, etc.). In this busy customer service role, you will often find yourself balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks, while warmly serving customers. While this position will start with manning the front desk, ideally you will grow into the position of a front of house assistant manager, responsible for ensuring the whole tailoring system is running smoothly so that jobs are completed well and on schedule. Part-time or Full-time position (can also be part-time to start while becoming full time after our current customer service & garment prep associate leaves their position in early 2027) Current store hours are 10am-6pm M-F Wages begin at $15/hr and depend upon experience and skills brought to the role 100% in person work in our Cedar Rapids based shop, no remote possibility 401(k) with 5% employer match This position will report to the shop owners and work closely with the seamstresses. Job Responsibilities

Answer phone calls, return voicemails, and greet customers when they arrive Scheduling fitting appointments Perform garment fittings with customers to fit, repair, or alter clothing to their specification, make appropriate alterations markings with chalk or pins, and provide ample notes detailing the job to be done Provide fit and style advice to customers during fittings Take measurements for suits or dresses Maintaining that alterations are completed in a timely manner Provide exceptional customer service across all customer interactions (welcome, measurements, phone calls, pickup) Maintain a clean and organized work room environment Operate a register to check out customers Open and close the shop depending upon the assigned shift. Includes, but is not limited to, opening/closing the cash register, checking voicemails and calling back customers, starting up/closing down equipment and basic tidying and cleaning when needed

- You have outstanding customer service skills You have attention to detail and deliver a high quality and professional end-product to the customer You work quickly and efficiently with minimal errors You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals You have basic computer and tablet literacy and a knowledge of internet software to operate the register What knowledge and skills will help you stand out(not required, but advantageous)•You have an eye for fashion You have some sewing skills and can hem a pant and/or patch a garment What experience & education you bring to the role•You have customer service experience, both in person and on the phone You have experience working in a high paced environment serving customers, such as a restaurant Speaking intermediate Spanish or better is an advantage
