Job Description

The Customer Service Clerk plays a vital role in providing exceptional customer service within a fast-paced retail grocery environment. This position requires a customer-focused individual with strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks efficiently. A person in this role is expected to handle customer inquiries, operate the cash register, and provide customer support while maintaining a professional demeanor and prioritizing tasks effectively. The Customer Service Clerk is expected to maintain a clean and organized workspace, demonstrating proficiency in point-of-sale systems and selling techniques to enhance the customer experience. This is a non-exempt position that formally reports to the Front-End Manager.

Responsibilities:

Obtain a liquor license and or food handlers permit as required by the county in which you are working in. This should be completed within the first 14 days of starting. Accurately process customer transactions using the

•cash register

•and point of sale system. Cash handling, including counting money, making change, and balancing the cash office at the end of every shift. Accurately receive and process payment for purchases by various methods, including cash, check, gift cards, credit and debit cards, use of coupons, or other approved payment options. Follow documented procedures to correctly process payment for purchases involving government assistance programs including SNAP and WIC. Efficiently and courteously handle all returns, exchanges, and price adjustments. Handle customer complaints and escalate complex issues to the appropriate supervisor. Quickly and courteously intervene when a cashier requests assistance with a customer transaction. Act in a cashier role as needed to ensure friendly, convenient customer experience. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues. Know and practice Cosentino's Customer Service Standards or Red-Carpet Service. Know and comply with all governmental regulations regarding weights and measures, alcohol and tobacco sales. Bagging merchandise carefully and efficiently. Prioritize tasks effectively to manage customer flow and minimize wait times. Demonstrate detail-oriented skills when processing transactions and handling cash. Communicate effectively with customers and team members. Support your company by completing additional tasks identified by management, assisting other stores or departments as needed and gaining new skills when necessary. Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

General knowledge of cash handling procedures. Working knowledge of cash register operation. General knowledge of customer service principles. General mathematics skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. High School diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience in a retail grocery setting is beneficial. Physical Abilities Reaching overhead with both arms, twisting at the waist and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 10 lbs. Pushing and pulling grocery items & carts to the proper locations as needed, up to a peak force of 25 lbs. Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces. Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50lbs., to a height of 34 inches. Bending and squatting, at times all the way to floor level. Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5ft.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with bagging merchandise. Experience with cashiering. Familiarity with retail front end operations procedures. Demonstrated leadership potential. Previous experience in a retail environment. Demonstrated positivity. High School or better.
