Job Description
Description We are looking for a skilled Copywriter to support higher education storytelling initiatives in Minnesota. This Contract position will focus on creating original website content that highlights academic programs, institutional achievements, and community impact through compelling written narratives. The ideal candidate brings a strong editorial eye, can work independently with minimal direction, and is comfortable producing effective copy for digital audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Develop original website stories tailored to higher education audiences, ensuring each piece is informative, engaging, and aligned with brand voice.
- Research topics, gather relevant background information, and transform complex subject matter into clear, audience-friendly content.
- Write and refine a range of digital materials, including feature stories, promotional messaging, email copy, and news-style articles.
- Edit drafts for clarity, consistency, tone, grammar, and accuracy before publication or stakeholder review.
- Collaborate with internal partners to understand content priorities, deadlines, and editorial expectations for ongoing assignments.
- Manage multiple writing projects at once while maintaining quality standards and meeting established timelines.
- Apply sound news judgment and storytelling techniques to create content that resonates with students, faculty, alumni, and broader communities. Requirements
- Demonstrated experience writing content for higher education, academic institutions, or closely related organizations.
- Strong portfolio showing original website stories, feature writing, or news-style content created for digital platforms.
- Proficiency in copywriting, copy editing, and adapting messaging for different channels and audiences.
- Ability to work independently, stay organized, and deliver high-quality work with limited supervision.
- Excellent written communication skills with close attention to detail, grammar, and editorial consistency.
- Experience producing promotional copy, email content, or media-focused storytelling is strongly preferred.
