Michigan Dental Association (MDA) Position Overview The Michigan Dental Association (MDA) is seeking a strategic and versatile Content & Editorial Manager to lead the development, execution, and evolution of the Association's editorial and content initiatives. This role is responsible for overseeing the MDA Journal editorial calendar, managing contributors, and producing high-quality written content that informs, engages, and supports MDA members. This position is designed with flexibility in scope and may expand over time to include broader leadership responsibilities, including oversight of integrated content, communications, and/or marketing functions. Key Responsibilities Editorial Strategy & Planning

• Lead the planning and execution of the MDA Journal editorial calendar
• Identify timely, relevant topics aligned with member needs and organizational priorities
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align editorial content with strategic initiatives Content Development & Production
• Write and edit feature articles, columns, and other content for the MDA Journal and additional channels
• Ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to editorial standards
• Draft a variety of content including thought leadership pieces, member communications, and organizational messaging Contributor & Workflow Management
• Recruit, manage, and collaborate with freelance writers, subject matter experts, and contributors
• Provide clear editorial direction, feedback, and deadlines
• Oversee content workflow from ideation through publication Editorial Quality & Governance
• Review and edit submitted articles for quality, tone, and alignment with MDA standards
• Maintain editorial guidelines and ensure consistency across all content
• Ensure content reflects the voice, mission, and values of the organization
• Participate in shaping the future structure of content and communications functions
• Contribute to strategic planning and organizational storytelling at a higher level Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with communications, marketing, and leadership teams to support integrated content efforts
• Contribute to broader content strategy across print, digital, and emerging platforms
• Work closely and collaboratively with the MDA Journal Editor—a member dentist leader elected by the House of Delegates—to plan, develop, and refine editorial content
• Support the Journal Editor in shaping editorial direction while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and standards Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in editorial, publishing, or content management roles
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
• Experience managing editorial calendars and multiple contributors
• Ability to translate complex or technical topics into engaging, accessible content
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Experience working with professional associations, healthcare, or nonprofit organizations is a plus Preferred Attributes
