Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract To Hire Bring your expertise in sign language interpretation to a rewarding opportunity supporting high school students! This contract-to-hire role places you at the heart of an inclusive educational environment, empowering students to access learning and thrive in the classroom. You'll step in to provide essential interpreting services as a backfill for an on-site interpreter, ensuring consistent support for a high school student. Your strong communication skills, professionalism, and adaptability will be key as you partner with students and staff. You'll play an integral role in fostering a welcoming academic atmosphere for learners who rely on your interpreting abilities.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings, preferably at the high school level RID Certification or equivalent credentials preferred Capable of interpreting complex academic content and facilitating communication among students, peers, and staff Compassionate and patient approach to supporting student needs Ability to work collaboratively and maintain confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken communication into ASL and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, meetings, and school events Assist in fostering communication between the student and teachers, classmates, and school personnel Support the student's understanding and participation in the learning process Maintain professionalism and impartiality at all times Adapt interpreting style for various learning activities or subject matter Participate in team meetings and collaborate with educational staff to support student success
