Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact in the life of a middle school student as a Sign Language Interpreter. This contract opportunity is perfect for interpreters who are committed to fostering communication access and supporting students' educational journeys. You will work closely with a middle school student who has some residual hearing, ensuring full participation in the classroom environment. Your workday begins bright and early at 7:35am, setting the tone for a productive school day. As the dedicated interpreter, you will help bridge the communication gap, making academic content more accessible and facilitating effective interaction with peers and educators.
Qualifications:
Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (IL PEL) Achieved a score of 3.4 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Demonstrated experience in educational settings, particularly with middle school students, is highly valued Proficient in American Sign Language and interpreting in academic environments Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities from spoken English to American Sign Language and vice versa Provide consistent communication access for a middle school student throughout the school day Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure the student's educational needs are met Support the student's engagement and participation in all school activities Maintain confidentiality and display professionalism at all times This position offers competitive pay ranging from $35-42 per hour, along with benefits to support your well-being and peace of mind.
