9477138-23503 Job Description Step into a rewarding role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the full 2026-2027 academic year. This is a full-time, contract-to-hire opportunity working 37.5 hours per week with a welcoming school-based team near Norfolk, VA. Candidates best suited for this role will bring both skill and compassion to facilitate communication in an educational environment, contributing to the success and inclusion of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This position offers stability through the school year and the potential for a longer-term placement.

Qualifications and Experience:

Valid certification in sign language interpreting: 3.5 or higher on the EIPA or VQAS Level II/III. Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, especially in a school setting, is highly desired. Ability to interpret effectively in a variety of classroom and school-related situations. Professional communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with educators and students. Commitment to confidentiality and respect for student privacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide sign language interpretation services to students, ensuring understanding during instruction, activities, and interactions. Adapt interpreting style to meet student needs and classroom dynamics. Work in partnership with teachers, staff, and families to support an inclusive classroom environment. Actively participate in team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) discussions, and professional development as required.
