Job Description

Put Your Troubleshooting Skills to Work If you have worked in live production or commercial AV, you know the pressure of a system failing when people are counting on it. You may also know the satisfaction of tracing the problem, restoring operation, and saving the day. We're looking for someone who enjoys that work and wants to build a career around it. MediaMerge designs, installs, and supports audio, video, lighting, broadcast, control, and networked systems for churches, museums, higher education, and corporate environments throughout the United States. We are hiring a Lead Service Technician to become our primary frontline technical resource for client support and help build our growing Service department. This is a hands-on technical position with a potential path to Service Manager. You will report to the VP Engineering and work alongside our Service Coordinator, with Systems Designers and other specialists available for technical escalation. What You'll Do Your primary responsibility will be troubleshooting and supporting installed systems, helping clients receive consistent service while allowing our Systems Designers to stay focused on planned project work.
You will:
Perform routine maintenance, scheduled repairs, and emergency service visits for contract and non-contract clients. Provide phone and remote support, determining when an on-site visit or specialist involvement is needed. Diagnose problems across audio, video, lighting, control, networking, intercom, and broadcast systems. Complete repairs, configuration changes, firmware updates, and equipment replacements within your capabilities and authorization. Communicate clearly with clients, document your findings, and follow open issues through final resolution. Work with the Service Coordinator and purchasing staff on visit planning, service quotes, replacement parts, warranty claims, and manufacturer repairs. Identify recurring problems and recommend improvements to maintenance, documentation, client training, or system operation. You will also support commissioning, project handover, and customer training. Depending on your experience, this may include shop testing, DSP and console setup, Dante configuration, video and broadcast equipment setup, lighting configuration, AV networking, and final system testing. We do not expect you to know every manufacturer or perform every specialized commissioning task independently on your first day. We do expect a strong technical foundation, useful day-one skills, and the judgment to recognize when additional expertise is needed. Who We're Looking For A strong commercial AV technician, live-production technician, or production manager could be an excellent fit. Experience in broadcast, touring, or worship production is also relevant, particularly if you have worked across several technical disciplines and regularly solved problems under pressure.
You should bring:
Meaningful professional experience with AVL or related production technology. Significant hands-on skill in at least one discipline and useful working knowledge across several others. Strong signal-flow knowledge and a methodical approach to troubleshooting. Familiarity with professional cabling, connectors, and common test equipment. The ability to read system drawings, technical manuals, and signal-flow diagrams. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn unfamiliar configuration software. Clear communication and the patience to teach clients with different levels of technical understanding. The ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and maintain accurate records. Experience with DSP, digital consoles, Dante, managed networks, control systems, projection, LED displays, lighting control, or broadcast systems is valuable. Relevant certifications are helpful, but technical judgment, practical experience, and the ability to learn matter more than knowing every product we use. How We Work We value people who remain steady when the situation is difficult, are honest about what they know, and take responsibility for following through. Asking for help is part of sound technical judgment. Leaving an unresolved problem without a clear next step is not how we want to work. Documentation and communication are part of the job. We want someone who can explain what happened, preserve the information the next technician will need, and help clients feel informed throughout the process. We also value people who notice recurring problems and help improve the way the team works. Work You Can Be Proud Of Our systems support experiences that matter to the people using them. You may help a church prepare for an important service, restore a museum exhibit, resolve a persistent broadcast problem, or teach a client to operate a system confidently. As you learn our systems and clients, you can take greater ownership of service planning, processes, client relationships, and technician development. The position offers a potential path to Service Manager based on performance, leadership readiness, and departmental needs, without a guaranteed promotion or timeline. Compensation & Benefits Pay based on experience and demonstrated ability. Overtime eligibility. Paid time off and paid holidays. Health insurance with MediaMerge currently covering 80% of the employee premium. Optional dental and vision insurance, plus disability insurance options. 401(k) with company matching. Annual bonus consideration based on company performance and individual contribution. Approved business-travel expenses paid or reimbursed. Company-provided specialty tools, test equipment, computer, and required resources. Employer-supported technical training and certification opportunities. Benefits are subject to current plan terms and eligibility requirements. Schedule, Travel & Field Requirements Normal hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with a scheduled meal break. Service and project needs may require work outside those hours. Participation in the on-call rotation is required, including after-hours response when assigned. Travel throughout the United States by automobile and commercial airline is required, including overnight stays. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required. Field work includes lifting and carrying equipment up to 75 pounds, using ladders and lifts, and working at heights up to 60 feet. Compliance with company and client safety requirements is mandatory. Personal hand-tool expectations will be reviewed during hiring. Apply Submit your resume and tell us briefly about your technical background and a challenging system problem you helped solve. If your experience comes primarily from live production, we welcome the opportunity to understand how those skills could translate to this role.
