Job Description

Die Setter/Press Operator Job Description The Die Setter/Press Operator sets up and installs stamping dies in presses ranging from 60 to 400 tons, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role performs die changeovers, supports press operations, troubleshoots tooling and equipment issues, and assists with preventive maintenance in a busy metal stamping environment serving demanding industries. Responsibilities Set up and install stamping dies in presses ranging from 60 to 400 tons in accordance with production schedules and part specifications. Perform complete die changeovers, including removing existing dies, cleaning components, aligning new tooling, and securely fastening dies and related equipment. Set up and adjust feeds, straighteners, coil lines, and auxiliary equipment to support efficient production runs. Conduct first-piece inspections to verify part quality against blueprints, specifications, and quality standards before releasing jobs to full production. Monitor press operations continuously to ensure safe, consistent, and efficient performance throughout production runs. Troubleshoot tooling, press, and material issues to minimize downtime and maintain optimal production output. Make precise adjustments to presses and tooling to maintain dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and production standards. Operate stamping presses as needed to support production requirements and maintain workflow. Assist with preventive maintenance activities and perform minor repairs on dies, presses, and related equipment as needed. Handle material movement safely using overhead cranes or tow motors, following all safety procedures and guidelines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies and safety standards. Collaborate with maintenance and tooling personnel to address machine issues, support repairs, and improve equipment reliability. Support basic facilities and machine repair needs on site as required, coordinating with external contractors for specialized services when necessary. Essential Skills At least 4 years of die setting experience working with progressive, compound, and single-hit stamping dies. Proven experience setting up stamping presses, including die installation, alignment, and securement. Hands-on stamping press operation experience in a production environment. Ability to operate an overhead crane safely for die handling and material movement. Strong understanding of stamping press die setting, including both progressive and single-hit dies. Ability to perform first-piece inspections and verify part quality against blueprints and specifications. Skill in troubleshooting machine, tooling, and material issues to restore and maintain production. Ability to set up and adjust feeds, straighteners, coil lines, and auxiliary equipment. Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following established safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with stamping presses in the 60-400 ton range. Experience in press operation combined with die setting responsibilities. Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and minor machine repair. Ability to perform basic facilities maintenance and coordinate with subcontractors for specialized services such as HVAC, crane, and roof maintenance. Comfort working in a fast-paced metal stamping and punch press environment serving demanding industries. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent quality standards. Ability to work independently and take ownership of equipment setup and reliability. Effective communication skills to coordinate with production, tooling, and maintenance personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Twinsburg, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
