Job Description

Heart Land Supports, LLC is a company in Newton, KS that is engaging and social. At Heart Land Supports we strive to have a meaningful impact on the lives of adults with developmental disability - promoting independent living within a community-based setting according to each individual's person-centered support plan . Currently we are seeking to hire additional Direct Support Professionals (DSP) for both day and overnight (sleep) shifts in the residential setting. Our DSP day shifts available are weekdays/weekends 3PM-9PM and weekends 8:30AM-3PM from $13-$16 an hr., depending on experience and certifications. The DSP sleep shifts we have available are great for means of a second income, and start at $10 an hr., since staff is allowed to sleep. Yes, that is right - you get paid to sleep! The overnight shift begins at 9PM and ends at 8:30 AM. Regular daytime rate kicks back in at 6AM. If you have to support a person in the middle of the night, your entire shift kicks back up to regular rate. We guarantee you a minimum of 6 hrs of sleep time during an overnight shift. Where else can you get paid to sleep?
DSP Responsibilities:
Assistance with everyday skills and personal care needs, such as bathing/dressing/grooming Housekeeping Preparing meals Shopping Provide assistance and care according to each individual's person centered support plan Assist with medication administration Accurately completing required daily documentation Transporting to appointments & activities & stores Observing, documenting, and reporting pertinent data Providing companionship and encouragement Cultivating a safe and supportive environment
Qualifications:
Must be able to pass extensive background screenings High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) CNA or CMA and Mandt or CIP preferred, but not required Valid KS Driver's License required Must be able to obtain and maintain training and certification provided by Heart Land Supports, in all required areas such as: Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation, CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration & Documentation, HIPAA, Bloodborne Pathogens, Person Centered Support Plans (PCSP), Individual Rights and Dignity, etc. Must be dependable and flexible Exceptional verbal and written communication skills This position requires walking and standing for prolonged periods and being able to lift or push a minimum of 50 pounds - depending on the individual needs of the person supported A Direct Support Professional is a special person: You are a listener; you encourage the person you support to communicate her preferences, to express her choices. You listen to all means of communication used by the person without prejudice or preference. You are an enabler; you empower the person supported to live the life he wants, and enable him to reach his goals. You are a companion; you assist the person to complete ADLs without judging or belittling. You are the cane she needs to walk. The hands she needs to cook. The shoulder she needs to lean on, the ear she can talk to. Your job requires empathy, patience, punctuality and tolerance. You are invisible when not needed, but always present and caring. Specifically, you provide supports with all activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living, in accordance with the person-centered support plans that guide you in providing the person served with the opportunity to live in and interact with the community. You also assist in providing medication in accordance with prescriptions and the medication administration protocols. You keep records and provide information back in accordance with the support plans and the company protocols. Written and verbal communication skills are important to succeed. You provide assistance in all matters that allow the person served to remain successful in a community setting with self-confidence and self-reliance. You are the bridge to inclusion.
