An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

Our mission is to provide training & support necessary for those who participate in the services to achieve their social, recreational, vocational & residential goals.

Position Purpose :
To provide vocational and/or skills training to persons with developmental disabilities.
DSP Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist client in selecting realistic goals and objectives.
  • Assess, evaluate, implement and chart client's progress on goals and objectives.
  • Pick-up and drop-off clients according to written schedules.
  • Record data and maintain field books.
  • Provide constant supervision to clients.
  • Participate in clients' planning team to develop goals, objectives and natural supports.
  • Our care giver must be a
Mandated Abuse Reporter Education and Work Experience:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Familiarity with developmental disabilities; an understanding of the philosophy of community-based and work programs; awareness of principles of normalization and development; effective writing skills and ability to chart data, to track client progress and generate reports in an accurate and timely manner; ability to deal effectively with staff, clients and outside community. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Driving and License Requirements :
Must have a good driving record and a valid California Driver's License. May be required to drive 9 passenger van.
Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms, regularly stands and walks for up to two hours at a time. Frequently stoops, bends, kneels, reaches, pushes, pulls and lifts up to 25 pounds. Must be capable of manipulating wheelchairs, walkers and positioning non-ambulatory adult clients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Criminal Record Clearance :
Must obtain Department of Justice/FBI fingerprint and clean DMV driving record clearance prior to hire.
Additional Requirements :
Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification. Must be able to pass a post-job offer job-related physical exam, to include a negative TB test if work will be in a licensed facility. Certain locations require the ability to pass a drug screening prior to hire; and randomly thereafter.
