2Purpose / Objective of the
Role:
This position is in the OWU Special Collections area of the library. We collect and preserve objects and documents related to the history of the University and student life on campus, as well as manage collections of rare books, manuscripts, and artifacts. This is a great opportunity for those interested in research as well as career paths in libraries, archives, history, and special collections. This will be for the academic year, starting as soon as possible. You will need to be able to schedule your 4-6 hours of work so they fit within the timeframe of Monday-Friday 9 am - 5 pm.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include assistance in these core areas: collection arrangement and description, digital collections, item preservation, outreach, and historical research.

Job Duties (you will receive training): collection inventory projects; creating and maintaining historical subject files; handling rare materials; digitization; University and alumni research; storage and maintenance of special collections.

Preferred Skills /
Qualifications:
Interest or experience in at least one of the following: library work, historical research, or preservation.

Familiarity with library-related applications, such as an online library catalog.

Some knowledge of library-related organizational systems.
Potential Future Career Benefit:
Student workers in the Libraries Special Collections gain skills in research and library work, as well as skills specific to working with historical and rare materials while serving the public. The successful student worker will gain skills in several of these areas: digitization, reference and research, library arrangement and description, outreach and communication, display design, preservation techniques, and customer service.
